Needed to get out so I walked these dorks (and my wife) to the beach yesterday evening. As lovely as it was, I'm not sure that England's autumn evenings should be this sunny 🤷 totally fine.

Here's a totally ethical looking thing, pay them a few thousand pounds so that you can work on their game for 30 hours a week.
Promotional graphic for RealityJam’s Scion game development programme. It advertises “Learn by Doing”, where participants build a portfolio through production work on a live commercial game, “Follow a Career Path” towards a paid apprenticeship and potential employment, and “Earn While You Learn” through streaming and in game assets. A section titled “Your Route Into Games” describes 12 months of foundation training followed by the possibility of a paid 12 month apprenticeship as a Junior Technical Artist or Junior Gameplay Developer, with base pay of £17,000 and potential annual earnings up to £22,000. The bottom section promotes regular streaming sessions showing development of RealityJam’s game 5th Dimension, with members able to showcase their work while training.

Heart breaking to see Tippet Studio collapsing and the assets being sold off. Hollywood owes Phil Tippet so much and these props should be in a museum. I don't know the details of this case, but I do know that VFX gets taken for granted and is grossly under paid by the studios. 💔

Today I found an old PS2 Logitech wheel with pedals circa 2004 for £10. It was premium when it came out so it's lasted over the years. Works perfectly on Windows 11 with drivers from 2010. Thanks charity shop.

Went for a swim during the eclipse, my plan was to float around on my back and wait for the sun to die. Then a little seal turned up while I was floating out at sea, which was weird but good. Eclipse shaped lens flare.

Seeing some amazingly shady job postings. I'd hazard a guess that this one is for feeding games and gameplay into LLMs, so that they can later replicate aspects of those games. Bonus points, it requires you to buy the games that they want you to record, on your hardware. How is this ok?

I went to a miniature painting session at #emfcamp which was a nice break from intensity. But I'm pretty sure the host was outsourcing his miniature painting for the DnD session he was running that evening. I respect that. Also I need new glasses and can't see shit without a magnifier.

I'm seeing loads of job listings that present as a role doing that job, but it's actually an AI training role where you teach AI how to take your job. Across various sectors. This feels insidious and it's happening on a very big scale.
A job listing: We are looking for an existing UX/Product Designer to help train AI models. You will measure the progress of these AI chatbots, evaluate their logic, and solve problems to improve the quality of each model.
