My editorial on how journals can earn trust. We often use journal names as proxies for quality. This is bad bc it’s not valid. But it could be. Editors could make journal name a valid signal. And we could place value on journals that show us how they do that. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

One thing I wish I saw more from communicators especially on health & medicine: Let's be more vocal about the positives of interventions that work. Yes, it's important to push back on misinformation, poor research practices & clarify side effects. But let's not forget how important this all is.

Jonathan Haidt Started a Social-Media War. Did He Win?
When a study challenged his bestselling book’s thesis — that social media harms kids — the New York University psychologist fired back. That was just the beginning.

Here's a fun way to encourage students to always look at their data. A few years ago, I wrote a script that converts a black and white png to data and plots it.
Plotted version of png converted to data with regression fit line. It appears there's a positive association between steps and sleep. But the simulated data points spell out "OH NO!"Png showing "OH NO!" in black letters on white background

For #rstats users, {renv} now provides similar functionality to {groundhog}. With your script open in RStudio, simply call renv::embed() & a code snippet will be inserted at the top with the script's version-specific dependencies and the code to install them 🧪#stats rstudio.github.io/renv/referen...
Calling embed() inspects the dependencies of the specified document then generates and inserts a call to use() that looks something like this:

renv::use(
  "digest@0.6.30",
  "rlang@0.3.4"
)
Then, when you next run your R script or render your .Rmd, use() will:

Create a temporary library path.

Install the requested packages and their recursive dependencies into that library.

Activate the library, so it's used for the rest of the script.
