I can't stop thinking about the purported drug smugglers being murdered by the US military. The punishment for drug offenses isn't the death penalty. This is just bloodlust and men in suits playing with lives they don't care about. It's truly grotesque and gravely compromises this country.

Our first freeze is coming this weekend, and I'm not ready for my lush green garden to go away. Let's hope the cold front isn't as severe as thought to be, and I have more time!

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous. This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

After noticing she and her web were looking pretty rough, we lost the last yellow orb weaver, Hopper, on Sunday. Jean, Lady, and Barbara all disappeared shortly before then. I know they're spiders, but we grew attached. Tonight, I noticed a newcomer, a spotted orb weaver (pic 4). Name pending.
Jean, one of the four yellow garden orb weavers inhabiting the garden. She arrived around the same time as Lady, and oversees the indigo black chocolate and rosella tomatoes.Hopper on the left, and Lady on the right. They protect the principe borghese tomatoes. Hopper arrived a few weeks after Barbara, and Lady arrived in the late summer.Barbara, the first yellow garden orb weaver who appeared first in the spring. She watched over the squash/gourd tunnel.

Hmmm, this Republican Senator's speech at the National Conservatism Conference sure has a lot of similarities to the antisemitic "great replacement theory." And by similarities, I mean it is word-for-word identical. www.dailysignal.com/2025/09/02/s...
For decades, many of those in power—not just here, but across the West—have been locked in a cultural war with their own nations. We see that in many of the countries of Europe today, where the immigration crisis threatens to transform the ancient fabric of those nations—and all who object are menaced by an increasingly totalitarian censorship state.

While our First Amendment has traditionally insulated us from the most extreme forms of censorship, America, too, is threatened by the same elites, driven by the same interests and ambitions. They are the elites who rule everywhere but are not truly from anywhere.

Apparently, it's an outbreak of the not so rare Shope papilloma virus. Many rabbits recover from it and the growths go away, unless they stop the rabbits from eating. Then it's not good news for the bunnies.

So proud of my first winter squash harvest. Also, does anyone know how to gauge when to pick watermelon? I'm wondering if this Ali Baba variety is ripe.
Eight winter-aged zuchinno rampicante in various states of curviness, eight spaghetti squash, one candy roaster, and one butternut squash are laid out on a concrete porch. The tips of gold glitter crocs are visible on the left side. The squash lay in front of a red-haired white woman holding the largest, curviest of the zuchinno rampicante squash. I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

First melon of the season, a Golden Jenny! Can't wait to cut into it later.
A hand-sized melon with lobed segments and a rough exterior, just starting to turn from green to orange is held in a white woman's hand. Melon vines are in the backdrop. A view from the top of the same melon. The rough webbing and protrusion at the center give it an almost flower-like look. A 14ish foot tall sunflower eclipses the view of the sun, which casts a light halo around it in a beautiful blue sky with very few clouds. An oak tree and white house are in the near distance, with a chaotic overgrown garden in between.

April 1st to today. Can hardly believe what's possible with full sun and plenty of spring rain!
Two symmetrical garden beds in a backyard with small green things sporadically placed in some areas. Not a lot of green growth. A small plot of bare soil sits to the left of the beds. Various potted plants are visible at the edges of a porch. An explosion of plant life has overtaken the same garden beds. The prepared plot to the left now has 10 foot tall sunflowers, tasseling corn, and squash trailing from it. Cucumber and melon vines threaten to take over the front of the yard. The trellis has turned into a verdant tunnel of gourds and squash. Chaotic bliss.
