Hey, @novascotiahealth.bsky.social, when will Covid vaccines be available? Other provinces have already started rolling them out. What’s the hold up? Many of us would like to get them asap given infections are already on the rise.

It's October 1st, Covid is already circulating in the schools and Nova Scotia Health still hasn't announced a start date for fall vaccines. We need earlier and more frequent access to vaccination.

It’s good to read Cdn officials are moving towards recognizing aerosol transmission - albeit at a glacially slow pace. Just wish they wouldn’t keep talking about COVID as if it’s over. There’s another wave coming & we’re doing almost nothing to keep people safe. It’s exhausting & infuriating.

An August 2026 FAQ document from Nova Scotia Public Health is a bit disingenuous. Provinces can purchase Nuvaxovid (formerly Novavax), and some provinces have already committed to making it available. You can contact the NS Health Minister using this template: stillcoviding.ca/en/take-acti...
A screenshot from a Nova Scotia Health document reads: "Is the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine available? The Novavax Covid-19 vaccine was not distributed within Canada to be used by the provinces and territories this season. Any further questions should be directed to the federal government."

Yes. In Nova Scotia, Public Health is very quiet on Covid prevention - including Health Canada's recommendation to improve ventilation. It seems worth noting as children prepare for yet another school year with no plan in place to monitor their indoor air quality and make improvements as necessary

Our seasonal (and poorly enforced) masking requirement has ended. Staff leaders were like “well staff will be happy about this at least!” And it made me think… they would never ever have seasonal handwashing requirements. Can you imagine? It’s summer, so as a treat you don’t have to wash your hands?

It’s so important we remember how this unfolded. Especially because we still have so many public health officials refusing to recognize the danger of airborne pathogens. (Ahem, @nsgov.bsky.social…)

OUR NEW BMJ editorial: Andes virus should reset WHO’s default approach to airborne risk. 🧵 1/ For severe pathogens with person-to-person transmission, the starting point should be precautionary airborne protections — not waiting for definitive proof after spread occurs. www.bmj.com/content/393/...

I'm seeing health officials around the world wringing their hands over how to draw lines in the sand regarding isolation/no isolation & length of isolation, depending on symptoms, exposure, etc. Too many variables. Have any of them heard of N95 respirators? They exist precisely for such situations.
