the crazy thing about making time for any creative pursuit is that you literally have to do what you have a gut-deep yearning to do or else you'll see other people doing it, and it WILL make you insane.

LOST INCULT

We have been deeply shaken by the distressing information that has come to light this week regarding one of our authors, Jacob Geller. Our thoughts, first and foremost, are with anyone affected by sexual violence.

We will no longer be working with Jacob and have decided to pull our book 'You're Not Overthinking It' from sale and refund those who have purchased it. We will also be ceasing sales of our other project, 'How A Game Lives'.

We want to assure everyone that all refunds will be processed, but as a small independent publisher, we ask you to bear with us as we work through the administrative challenges of manually processing many thousands of refunds through different payment methods. It will take us some time, but we promise that everyone will be refunded in batches.

We will contact all customers with refund details as soon as possible.

A couple of bunnies haul a gigantic pumpkin home from a pumpkin patch, dragging it down the sidewalk in an old-fashioned red toy wagon. A third bunny rolls a smaller pumpkin sideways along the sidewalk just behind them

worked on designing cos' living quarters today! he doesn't live at the academy, but rather above a pub in the town! he rents the room above from the elderly owner, who used to live there until a fall left her less confident with the stairs. she still comes in to work, though :) #cosverse

sketchy floorplan and design for a two floor building, with a rickety staircase going up the side of the building and a balcony jutting out the front. the floorplan shows the ground floor dedicated to a small pub with facilities out the back, and the first floor as a small home split into two rooms -- a bedroom and a cobbled together study. The building is called O'Bhan's and a note reads that "madame siobhan lives off site as she can't do the stairs"

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Genuinely, this completely rules

－Recently, the game has been going viral on X for its beautiful undressing animations. I’ve even read in one of your previous interviews that the development team practiced stripping themselves as reference for the undressing animations. What was the process behind making the animations actually like?

Matsui:

I’d love to know how far that story has spread. It’s true.

First, we write a plot for each undressing scene, then draw storyboards, exactly as the original team did. Then the real work begins, because the animation is essentially all keyed by hand. A designer moves the clothing’s 3D model, frame by frame, manually. It really is pretty much like the claymation method I mentioned.

We did try automating it with physics simulation first, but it was a total failure. The cloth moved in a physically correct way, but had absolutely no allure. We learned a profound lesson: accuracy and sensuality are two unrelated properties. In the end, we accepted that humans would have to do all of it.

Then VR adds its own weight. In a normal game, if something becomes awkward, you can cut away or swap models between scenes. In VR, the player can look from any angle at any time, so none of those tricks are available. The same model has to undress convincingly no matter where you’re standing. When I described this to a designer at another studio, he said, “I would never do that.” I’ve chosen to take it as a compliment.

And then, yes, the part you’ve read about. The undressing motions themselves use motion capture, but the deeper problem was that nobody actually knew the correct rhythm and order in which a person takes off clothes. So, the directors gathered and undressed themselves as reference. “That zipper is coming down too fast.” “She’d pause once before slipping her shoulder out.” These were serious, sober discussions. For compliance reasons, the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns team works in a walled-off section of our office – and that was the moment those walls truly earned their keep.
