Dame Esther regularly guested on BBC Radio Solent from her home in the New Forest. She happened to be on my show on her 80th birthday. When I asked how she'd celebrated she said, "I've just run round the garden naked!" Rarely am I lost for words but I just coughed and spluttered in response!

Why is the BBC taking an axe to Radio 4? It should cut TV instead
It’s a big mistake to target radio and ditch shows like Crossing Continents when the audience for radio is robust and television is falling

Very sad to read Bill Oddie has died. Not as famous as his other stuff but 'From The Top' - a show about a middle aged bank manager who so wants to be famous he enrols in a theatre school for kids was a big fave of mine when I was little. youtu.be/a9vCqwujecA?...

Ah, how sad. If I'm right her last appearance was the lovely scene at Grace Archers' graveside 70 years since her death where she talked about how she had the life with Phil Grace WOULD have had. A radio great.

As a radio guy I always feel the wireless is overlooked in debates about the future of the licence fee. Phil Riley's analysis predicts 'ruinous' consequences if advertising or subscription is the future of BBC funding - in the commercial sector too. Good read. radioriley.blogspot.com/2025/11/the-...

First time this guy has ever made me laugh
Comedian Tim Dillon said on his podcast last month that he signed up for financial reasons.
He said he had been offered "a large sum of money" - $375,000 for one performance - and said that other comedians had been offered as much as $1.6 million. He told his detractors to "get over it," adding, "So what if they have slaves, they're paying me enough to look the other way."
But in an episode of the Tim Dillon Podcast last week, the comedian announced he'd been removed from the lineup for the comments he made about the country's record on slavery.
