So yeah, elision! It's stylometric GOLD. Just one example, the Consolatio Liviae was considered a genuine work until last century (the language is a GREAT match), but as soon as people did stats on the elisions it was instantly busted, and now everybody agrees it's not Ovid. ELISIONNN! 🫳🎤

I've talked to a few journal editors who are concerned about similar problems re: anonymous reviewers. If a peer reviewer wants a little help & feeds your unpublished submission into an AI system, they've just shared your proprietary work & broken confidentiality. A nightmare to think about

After the success of the 2026 sessions, and because fragments never rest, please have a look at our #medievalfragments session for #IMC2027! We are open to any type of fragments, from anywhere.. get in touch!
After two years of bringing Fragmentology to the IMC, we would like to invite expressions of interest for 2027. Fragments, ever present across a great number of materials, are unique and tantalising windows to the past. Surviving as insertions in later textiles, in later buildings or as parts of bindings in manuscripts, fragments offer us layers of meaning: what were they, originally? What was their original purpose? And their later purpose? How have they survived?
We understand fragments as physical pieces of any material, from anywhere during the Global Middle Ages. Some suggested topics are:
Manuscript fragmentology: collections of or individual fragments; selling and acquiring fragments; palaeographical and codicological analysis of fragments.
Any medieval fragments: Including but not limited to archaeological, architectural, textile, manuscript, incunabula and textual fragments.
Meaning, lives and usage: reconstructing the original object; the meaning of the original and of the fragment; original and later life and use of the fragment; collectors and collecting.
Methodology: Methods and techniques to work with fragments, manuscript or otherwise, including digital methods and digital projects.
Please send us a short abstract (c. 300 words) and CV to Dr Manuel Muñoz García (manuel.munoz-garcia@durham.ac.uk) no later than September 4.
We look forward to hearing from you!
