We’re sick of ICE terrorizing our neighbors. Sick of it. Like the brave people of Minneapolis, we have zero tolerance for federal agents lawlessly unleashing violence on our streets.

A frustrating loss in a three-game sweep to end the Yankees season. Gonna be some changes around that team in the off-season, I would predict. ⚾️

If you live on portions of the northern Gulf coast highlighted here, winds are forecast to be high enough to make further preparations for Isaias impossible by Friday. Do you have an evacuation plan? Is your home ready? Prepare now. www.weather.gov/safety/hurri...
National Hurricane Center map showing the earliest reasonable arrival times of tropical-storm-force winds from Tropical Storm Isaias, as of October 7, 2026. Tropical-storm-force winds could reach the southern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday evening, spread northeast across the central Gulf Thursday, and reach portions of the northern Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle as early as Friday morning. Areas farther inland across Mississippi and Alabama could experience these winds by Friday evening. Colors indicate the probability of sustained winds of at least 39 mph, with the highest probabilities concentrated along the storm's projected path.

From the Wednesday afternoon cycle of the 1000-member Google Deepmind ensemble, nearly the entire ensemble is east of the NHC track forecast, and 74% of the members reach Category 3+ intensity now. The most likely intensity at landfall is Category 1 hurricane. #Isaias

The SEC really needs to make a decision about the Alabama/Georgia game in the next 24 hours. Playing that ANYTIME Saturday feels very foolish with an approaching hurricane.

I have an ancient history with R.E.M. but had no interest in seeing the Shannon/Narducy tribute, until it came to Detroit & went to try to figure out what was going on, for my @salon.com column: www.salon.com/2026/10/07/m...

Michael Shannon’s R.E.M. tribute reminded me why I love the band
The actor’s show with Jason Narducy is more than nostalgia — it celebrates the band’s artistry.

Some modeling suggests this could have some pop to it when it makes landfall. Gulf Coast should be getting ready for a more serious storm. (Yep, rapid intensification is possible.)

Either there’s rule of law or there’s not. Either we are defined by a system of justice that holds the guilty accountable or we aren’t. Either we have a democracy that limits abuse to define our public life and the rights of citizens or we have a country collapsing into strongman authoritarianism.

The area I highlighted six days ago is coming together... it's currently tagged as Invest 92L but is close to becoming the season's 9th named storm, Isaias. As of Tuesday morning, it's located in the far western Gulf and has had a significant flare-up of strong thunderstorm activity over the center.

Astronomy news for spooky season: a zombie planet orbiting a dead (but still hostile) star. Evidence suggests the following: Star dies, expels outer layers, becomes white dwarf. Gas giant forms from the debris. White dwarf is now blasting planet with radiation, shearing off some of its atmosphere.

TL;DR: cold core vs warm core. And no, a warm seclusion doesn’t change the nature of the overall system. If it’s a cold cored storm, that’s not and never will be tropical.
