Bhattacharya is a jealous, petty, and vindictive man. He wants to destroy everything that Tony Fauci built in a long and distinguished career: HIV/AIDS research, pandemic preparedness, biodefense capabilities. All because he thinks he was "silenced" for wanting more Americans to die from COVID-19.

Abolishing the NIH has always been this admin’s plan. They told us in Project 2025. They’ve SHOWN us with their actions over the past 18 months. This is why a heads down approach will not work. The scientific community has 2 options: oppose this with all we’ve got, or let them carry out their plan.

These "Scientific Freedom" lectures can seem trivial and best ignored But they reveal a lot about "Jay" Bhattacharya. He does not seem to be seriously interested in "Gold Standard" anything. He seems to be working to move up from being a C list political hack, unworthy of being associated with NIH.

This is what democracy looks like!!!! Democracy is not a static condition – it is living and it is fragile. The choices we make every single day determine whether it thrives or whether it crumbles. Progress has never come from silence.

This story from @michaeldgreen.phd is way too common at the Trump/Bhattacharya NIH. Program staff can't give grantees clear answers; they don't have them. That is the MO: provide intentionally ambiguous guidance under threat of retaliation, creating an environment where staff over-comply out of fear

More changes at #NIH. Any foreign (even a non-HS) component needs a PF5. US-based institutions who gave sub-awards in olden times should now use the PF5. It looks to be structured like a P01.

I’m hearing people say that the DHS budget bill won’t affect ICE because of funding from the summer OBBB package. But Congress could remove that ICE funding. For example, amend this appropriations bill to zero out the ICE funding from the summer.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., is declining to rule out supporting Republicans’ short-term spending bill if leaders promise a vote on extending Affordable Care Act subsidies later this year. “There are a number of ways to get this done that should satisfy both sides,” Shaheen, a longtime sponsor of related legislation, told Semafor on Wednesday, following a roundtable with small business owners who rely on the subsidies. “I’m not going to draw a line in the sand and say it’s got to be this way or that way.” Her comments point to an off-ramp for lawmakers seeking to avert a government shutdown next week: Senate Majority Leader John Thune told CNN the GOP’s proposal “enables us … to have discussions about other issues, like the premium tax credit issue.” Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., predicted 10 Senate Democrats would vote for the funding bill on Monday. Meanwhile, the Office of Management and Budget ordered federal agencies to prepare mass layoff plans in the event the government shuts down.
