St Paul, to Timothy (and also to ask Christians living in today's idiot media ecosystem): "Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels." [2 Tim 2:23]

What are we to make of war in an age of drones, money in the time of cryptocurrency, and work when AI seems to threaten almost every job? Does the long tradition of Christian Ethics have anything to say about these questions? Come along to these sessions and find out!

I can still remember waking up the morning of September 7th 2020 to the wildfires in LA County, colouring the sun a deep and painful red. It's definitely not as bad as that here in Aberdeenshire, but seeing the light with a sickly orange hue to it was not what I was expecting when I woke up today 💔

Exodus 1 tells the story of a foreign people growing in power and the ruling nation oppressing them out of fear of the other. Let the reader understand.
Now a new king arose over Egypt, who
did not know Joseph. ' He said to his people, "Look, the Israelite people are more numerous and more powerful than we. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, or they will increase and, in the event of war, join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land."
"Therefore they set taskmasters over them to oppress them with forced labor. They built supply cities, Pithom and Rameses, for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread, so that the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites. 13 The Egyptians became ruthless in imposing tasks on the Israelites, 4 and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick and in every kind of field labor. They were ruthless in all the tasks that they imposed on them.

When I first left atheism behind, the biblical refrain to "fear God" was unsettling since why would we fear one who is love? In this age of Lidl-brand Caesars who think they can wage war with impunity, it has come to be among the easiest injunctions to understand in all of the Scriptures.

I had heard that you can just make up a phrase, put it in inverted commas and add "meaning" to the query and Google "AI" will fantasize a definition and an entire cultural context. Vonnegut could not dream up shit and self-defeating as this.
Google's imagined response to a bland idiom I made up - "the wren gets the last word" - which involves a definition, a cultural context, and a note about the symbolic representation of a phrase that does not exist in Hiberno-English.

Pope Francis wasn’t a “liberal.” His papacy can’t be understood with the liberal/conservative frame. He was pastoral in the model of a Jesuit spiritual director. The point of Christianity is a personal encounter with God in Jesus.

Pope Francis's Way of the Cross: "Today’s builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of Hell. God’s economy, on the other hand, does not kill, discard or crush. It is lowly, faithful to the earth."
You blessed the Father, who conceals his plans from the wise and the learned in order to reveal them to the little ones. Even the way of the cross is traced close to the earth. The mighty withdraw from it; they desire to grasp at heaven. Yet heaven is here below; it hangs low, and we can encounter it even when we fall flat on the ground. Today’s builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of Hell. God’s economy, on the other hand, does not kill, discard or crush. It is lowly, faithful to the earth. Your way, Jesus, is the way of the Beatitudes. It does not crush, but cultivates, repairs and protects.

Let us pray, saying: May your kingdom come!

Unlearning is learning. If all of the Christian life is conversion, then we never "arrive" at some controlled and static “biblical worldview” that enables us to see reality in totality - that's what ideology offers. No, the church is always and ever on the way until the Day we aren't.
