Just announced at NYCC: there's going to be a MURDOCH MYSTERIES comic!! I'm writing it, @jasonloo.bsky.social is drawing and colouring, and lettering is by Andrew Thomas. It's a Canadian all-star team and I am really excited to share this with you all! Soon! SOOOON.
Murdoch stands on a biplane, facing off against an assailant, while James Pendrick pilots the craft.

It's a shame that the current conservative movement in this country believes that nostalgia confers a property right or there would be a dead-easy policy solution to this problem.

Self-help author: in my book, I invented spending time with your children as a fun thing to do. Tech company: at last, we have gotten rid of spending time with your children from classic self-help novel « You Should Spend Time With Your Children »

Kinda annoyed it’s only come up on the weekend right before the election, because it deserves a bit more air time

I imagine « Here are known instances of the US promising support to groups proposing to carve up Canada » isn’t something the federal govt is looking forward to having to do.

Peu de chances que le Oui l’emporte bientôt, mais il y a quand même d’autres risques dans le cas d’un gouvernement à la MBC

What happened to Fréchette’s/CAQ’s bounce, anyhow? They seemed to be making a bit of a comeback until the last week or so

It’s a shame much of North America is built such that you can’t fully participate in society without a car, because some people simply can’t be trusted to safely operate a motor vehicle

I don’t have a good answer. Your guess of « threatened dire consequences » certainly isn’t out of the question, but I wouldn’t think they’d be significantly worse than their response to Canadian counter tariffs

Philippe Massicotte @philippemassicotte.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Granted: no downside making another official complaint like they did with the first round of tariffs last year

Philippe Massicotte @philippemassicotte.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I can buy that there’s value to being able to say “We went through the appropriate channels in response to unjustified tariffs”, though it may be politically untenable for the government to just take it on the chin for six months or so only for the US to ignore an unfavourable ruling anyway

These provisions were tailored to comply with CUSMA. The real galaxy-brain move would be to just say that all CUSMA provisions in the digital chapter have no force and effect because the USA is blatantly violating the agreement. That would open up a lot of new options for better digital policy.

This is about where I'm at. Make a single painful escalation then go dark. Ask any other country, or ourselves, whether America's word is worth anything on trade deals. The answer is no. You cannot bargain with a country that will not keep its word.

If existing agreements are invalid, so be it. Oil, energy, fertilizer. Anything that goes south, the agreement is void like the Howe Bridge. We could use that power up here. State of emergency to rush build E-W export infrastructure. Dynamite the approaches to the Maroun bridge.

I really do worry that one of my major fears has started coming to pass, that this is increasingly moving beyond a Trump fixation that the rest of the GOP slavishly humours, and into something that they've genuinely internalized and made their own.
