Following his interview on the Today Programme, I'd genuinely love to know the basis on which @eddavey.libdems.org.uk thinks the EHRC guidance is “not fit for purpose” and not clear or helpful enough, and how he thinks it could have been drafted otherwise following the For Women Scotland judgment.

I'm certainly not a socialist in economic terms (though share Catholic Social Teaching's concerns re untrammelled, hyper-individualist capitalism). But this from Janan Ganesh is characteristically good. www.ft.com/content/1b0a...

Why must a socialist also be woke?
If the left could separate economics from culture, capitalism would have more to fear

Berkeley's new AI policy is laudable. Its post-plagiarism conception of AI misuse prohibits "conceptualisation" and "outlining". I'm glad I belong to a Church that can see the good in Islam, and don't follow the hollow ethno-nationalist 'Christianity' of Kruger et al. Here's what Vatican II's Nostra aerate (1965) says about Islam.
The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all- powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet. They also honor Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting.

Since in the course of centuries not a few quarrels and hostilities have arisen between Christians and Muslims, this sacred synod urges all to forget the past and to work sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom.

The Jewish News, which I am proud to work for as Deputy Editor, has published an editorial on this week's Iftar prayers in Trafalgar Square www.jewishnews.co.uk/voice-of-the...
Excerpt from the article:

"The question here is not really one of whether such prayer is in fact an attempt to “dominate” – or the more obvious explanation, that during Ramadan one breaks ones’ fast by eating very briefly just before and then more properly after the evening Maghrib prayer (yes, like our own Maariv prayer). Rather it is about whether one has the right to publicly express their religious identity in this country. In this specific instance, an event to mark a key event in the Islamic calendar had been openly and legally booked for Trafalgar Square. Muslims present had every right to pray as a part of that."

1. Britain has very much *NOT* always tolerated minority faiths. Just ask Jews and Catholics. 2. The idea that religious expression should be "in conformity with our values, our norms, our beliefs" should worry every faith group, starting with Christians.

There’ll be disappointed feelings, even fear after the Scottish Parliament vote. But there’d have been as much fear and sadness if the bill had gone through. I’m glad that Scotland has refused to pass a law that would threaten the most vulnerable in society. Let’s hope Westminster follows suit.

The idea that only a craven fear of Muslim voters is keeping Labour out of the war is delusional - and shameful. If there's a problem with "sectarianism" in UK politics, it's coming from those who routinely cast Muslim voters as standing outside "the national interest" & acting as a brake upon it.
