I put off watching Tucker Carlson’s interview with Jacob Rees Mogg but I did want to see if it’s been taken out of context. It has not. Carlson absolutely argued that Britain would be better off to have not fought in WWII, that Germany was justified in invading Poland, and more than in that vein.

Two points here. 1. Automation can be great, but this administration is making it harder for states to use automation to expand coverage. 2. Automation to detect fraud has a really bad track record in practice. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/robodebt-w...

To me, this feels like an extension of DOGE. Big claims about fraud, using data-matching to drop people from coverage. Without actual data, or investigation, it is impossible to refute the claims, but such transparency is unlikely to be forthcoming.

NY Times pointing out that Patel’s purge of agents focusing on public corruption hampered the investigation of Collins www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/u...
Kash Patel, the E.B.I. director, also fired many agents in a public corruption unit at the Washington field office that had handled the Kao inquiry who had gone on to work for the special counsel Jack Smith, including one of the agents who had investigated Mr. Kao.

A politicized DOJ means not just can the President protect himself, he can also protect loyalists...as long as they stay loyal. A president who can quash an FBI investigation into a member of Congress is in a strong position to direct that person on how to vote. bsky.app/profile/prop...

This seems like a pretty big deal: donors made illegal contributions to Susan Collins and then were awarded lucrative contracts after her office intervened with the Navy. An FBI investigation was dropped under Trump. www.propublica.org/article/fbi-...
To skirt campaign finance laws and conceal the source of the funds, Navatek planned to funnel the donation through a shell company. The CEO wanted assurance that Collins would know where
the money came from. Reed confirmed that she would, the executive said - and that Navatek would get its government contracts.
After the Corner Bakery meeting, Navatek's CEO, Martin Kao, sent an initial $150,000 to the Collins super PAC using the shell company. Two months later, he told Navatek executives that Collins committed to getting the company $32 million in naval contracts, according to an internal company email reviewed by ProPublica.

you'd never know it from the NYT article @gelliottmorris.com is commenting on here, but there is a very well-known 60+ year old literature in political science documenting the exact point the op-ed presents as a novel insight, which begins with Converse (1964):

Look at Montana. In 2012, Dems held two Senate seats there, and nearly all elected state government positions. Today, the Dems hold zero. Trump-ism, as practiced by others, has indeed been a winning strategy.

It is also the case that professors put in so much unpaid time. Exhibit A: I spent most of my summer prepping a brand new course. I do it both to deliver the best course I can and ti make my semester less stressful. It also means I leave earlier in the day during the semester….

Worse, it shows fundamental ignorance of how political socialization occurs. Most students have pretty fixed political beliefs once they hit high school, let alone college.

Folks, stop whining about Wisconsin polling being off. The gold standard, Marquette Law, had Hong’s support dead on in this July 29 release. If you look at it closely, what’s obvious now is that this was her ceiling, and what was obvious even then— most of the electorate was figuring out what to do.

One way to interpret the results as they come in here in Wisconsin is that the Marquette Law School poll hit Hong’s support and the undecideds moved in a wave to Crowley. Not sure if that’s what happened, but it is consistent with the data so far. Older folks were more likely to be undecided.
