For me good art has to put its head into the jaws of Insisting Upon Itself and sometimes it gets devoured but the greater sin lies in the opposite direction, which is never giving us the chance to care at all

"I don't know. Thousands of years ago it crashes and this thing… gets thrown out, or crawls out, and it ends up freezing in the ice." My take on a scene from The Thing featuring the brilliant matte painting art of Albert Whitlock.
Painting, three people stand at the edge of a snow covered crater looking down on the remains of a crashed saucer like craft.

It is okay to let people dislike things. It is also okay to let them vent their dislike in public and on social media. It is okay to dislike things without having a moral and political reason for doing so. I need you all to please stop tying your entire identities up in the things you consume.

Today's four GHOULISH works of palaeoart! Art by Martin Knowelden, Richard Orr, Gino D'Achille, and Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins!
Portrait view of a black-scaled Tyrannosaurus with slavering jaws and huge, intense amber eyes. Its teeth are small and curved, lining its mouth like a zipper.A flock of lightly furred, pink Quetzalcoatlus with wiry, slender necks and toothy pinheads with tiny black eyes and disturbingly human-like ears. They swarm the carcass of a dead dinosaur, feasting on the exposed flesh.A long-legged, horned theropod grips an egg in its taloned hand, overlooking its surroundings with a spiteful glower.A pair of toothy, frog-like labyrinthodonts emerge onto a sandy shore. Their pavement-like scales glisten with moisture as they crawl forward, staring with fish-like eyes.

Today's four GHOULISH works of palaeoart! Art by Y. Tabaries, Ronald Swanwick, David Peters, and Norman Nodell!
A scaly, green, lizard-like therocephalian wrenches a bloody chunk of meat from a carcass.A big-headed Shunosaurus with a slim, rubbery body without obviously defined muscles. Its tail whips about, ending in a cluster of spines and a bony lump. Its teeth protrude grotesquely from its skeletally thin skull. An Anteosaurus in oblique view, standing in a low sprawl. Its head is covered in slick black keratin and the teeth are completely exposed, giving it a fearsome and monstrous expression. Its body is covered in a pattern of black bands and yellow splotches, reminiscent of a lace monitor.A Tyrannosaurus stands waist-deep in a pool of water, throwing its head back in an agonised wail. On the shore, a forest of broken trunks forms an ominous natural palisade. In the foreground, the bleached bones of a dead dinosaur are tangled in a mix of broken wood.

Sir Thomas Malory, Knight (of the Living Dead) A drawing I did in one of my sketchbooks last October. #art #traditionalart #arthuriana #arthurianlegends #medieval
An undead Sir Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte D'Arthur, walks across a graveyard with a grin on his bearded face. His left hand eye socket is empty, while a red and yellow light glows from within his right socket. In his right hand he clutches a massive book.

This is incredibly important. I feel deeply that curbing sexual violence will come from raising social expectations of men, not from ‘educating’ them. I fear this is an unpopular view, because people are afraid to face up to the scale of the issue.

Today's four random pieces of palaeoart: Tim Bradley's Abelisaurus, Bernard Long's Paranthropus, Petr Modlitba's Dimetrodon, and John Sibbick's Deinonychus!
A vicious looking Aucasaurus with a brown reticulated pattern poses threateningly, foot lifted as if about to kick out at some unseen foe. Its arms are long and end in three-fingered hands tipped with recurved claws.A trio of Paranthropus pluck berries from shrubs and trees, stuffing their chimp-like faces. Their muscular frames are covered in a short, dense pelt of glossy, near-black fur.Two slick-skinned Dimetrodon wrestle in a dusty clearing, slamming jaw-first into each other. A scaly, wedge-headed Deinonychus with large, curled fingers tipped with huge talons. It has partially translucent skin, giving a view of its musculature and skeleton beneath.

Today's four GHOULISH works of palaeoart! Art by Peter Zallinger, Tony Gibbons, Boris Vallejo, and Richard Orr!
A fleshy pink Triceratops with a nearly skeletal face charges a bloated, similarly pink Tyrannosaurus. The theropod's huge head sports a slavering, toothy grin, looking off to the side as if totally unaware of the charging herbivore.A towering yellow Spinosaurus with pavement-like scales and human-like legs sprints through a forest under a full moon, mouth agape and eyes wide in an expression that is both terrifying and terrified.A trio of long-tailed, draconic pterosaurs flee from a strangely humanoid theropod, soaring past volcanic spires that belch plumes of flames and smoke into a burning red sky.A heavily armoured Ornithosuchus with hugely muscular thighs and weedy lower legs tears a chunk of ragged flesh from the partially eaten carcass of a dead dicynodont partially hidden in a thicket of leafy foliage.

Finished re-reading Salem's Lot by Stephen King today, and I got to thinking what a modern-day sequel (as in our current modern-day) would look like. Judging from dates and character ages in the novel, I'm roughly guessing that Ben Mears would be 84 and Mark Petrie would be 62 in 2026.

Today’s four random pieces of palaeoart: Bob Walters’ Centrosaurus, Graham High’s Tyrannosaurus, John Conway’s Yi, and Rod Ruth’s Iguanodon!
A Centrosaurus emerges from behind a shrub, mouth open as if mid-bellow. Its long nasal horn curves subtly downward, pointing almost perfectly horizontally while the head is slightly downturned.A model of a sandy-coloured Tyrannosaurus with slim, athletic proportions and a tightly curved tail. Its head is held up, jaws agape in a threatening display. A feathery, parrot-like scansoriopterygid spreads its kite-like wings as it approaches a tree branch, feet held out in preparation to perch. A towering green Iguanodon with a prominent, dewlap-like gular pouch browses on leafy greenery as it yanks a tree limb down with its hands. Behind, a horizontally postured Iguanodon toddles past. A tortoise watches the giant reptile with a look of mild jealousy. Behind, the sky is tinted orange by the setting sun.

your response to “I was raped” should not be “I was right”
4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A Purple Woman looks distraught, on the verge of breaking down. She says “that man raped me”
Orange Guy standing next to her is absent-mindedly checking his nails. He says “Wellll, I’ve always disliked him and his work.”

Panel 2:
Purple Woman begins to cry. Orange Guy adopts an incredibly smug expression and says “Guess I must just be a good judge of character”

Panel 3:
Purple Woman dissolves into sobs. Orange Guy notices, puts his hand on her shoulder and says “Aw”

Panel 4:
Purple Woman crumples to the floor. Orange Guy, looking bemused, asks “Are you crying because you’re jealous of how smart I am?”

WAVE (1994) Acrylic on Canvas - 48” x 48” Of all the paintings hanging in my home, this one probably elicits the most comments. #art
An exponential curve expressed as a massive wave of green-blue water that climbs to vertical against a sky of puffy lavender clouds. Light breaks through the cloud cover just over the horizon casting a flat glare across rippling water before the wave climbs. Fin-like ridges emerge running up the wall give the water turbulence and dimension.

I don't think anyone can really equivocate on the death penalty in America given that it's not even like, "oh, they might get it wrong!" They *constantly* get it wrong. GOP governors are forever overruling successful appeals or racing courts to kill someone before they're exonerated.
