Saw these last evening before I went to a play, and immediately thought, I’ve got to tag @toomanycommas.bsky.social in a post.
A brass plaque with the following text:
THIS 10 TON, GRANITE BOULDER IS AN ICE AGE ERRATIC. IT WAS TRANSPORTED, ENCASED IN AN ICEBERG DURING ONE OF THE CATACLYSMIC FLOODS THAT INUNDATED THIS REGION OVER 15,000 YEARS AGO. IT ORIGINATED NEAR MONTANA AND WAS DEPOSITED AT AN ELEVATION OF 228 FEET NEAR CASTON, OREGON,
ABOUT 25 MILES WEST OF HERE.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO DONNA OTT AND HER SON, DOUGLAS OTT, BRIAN CLOPTON EXCVATINGING
AND AXIS CRANEA 10-ton granite boulder in a park in Tualatin, Oregon, that was carried near to there in a chunk of ice during massive, destructive flooding.A brass plaque reading:

• Lakeridge Rhyolite Boulder Eratic

This rhyolite volcanic rock was found in April, 2021 during the consiruction of Lakeridge Middle School (4700 Jean Road) in Lake Oswego, Oregon by the superintendent for Skanska Construction, Jacob Parker, It was found among a large deposit of over 100 very large basalt boulders during the excavation of the new school. Rhyolite is very rare on this side of the Cascade Mountains. It was most likely transported here by one of the 40
Missoula Floods that came through Lake Oswego between 15,000 - 18,000 years ago. It originated probably in caster Oregon or Washington and was either transported here on an iceberg or as bedload bouncing along the bottom of these large floodwaters. Special thanks to Brian Clopton Excavating for transporting it here to this site from Lake Oswego.

Also, with UBI, the leisure TO read increases. If you've got 80 or 90% of your basic living expenses covered if alone and fully covered if you buddy up with 1-3 others, so you only need part-time or gig work for extras? That's time & attention the rentier doesn't extract & is restored to the worker.

Calling out the disinformation regarding today’s fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis. While the President claims "self-defense," local leaders and witnesses tell a very different story. Here is what we actually know: #4R (1/3)
@realDonaldTrump from Truth Social:

I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

Two people were killed this evening at Brown University by a gunman who remains at large.
Eight others are injured, fighting for their lives in a nearby hospital. This senseless violence-once considered unfathomable-has become nauseatingly normal to all of us across our nation. Tonight, on the eve of the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting, we find ourselves in mourning once again.
The epidemic of gun violence stretches across America. We reckon with it when we step into our houses of worship and out onto our streets, when we drop our children off at kindergarten and when we fear if those children, now grown, will be safe on campus. But unlike so many other epidemics, we possess the cure. We have the power to eradicate this suffering from our lives if we so choose.
I send my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and to the Brown and Providence communities, who are wrestling with a grief that will feel familiar to far too many others. May we never allow ourselves to grow numb to this pain, and let us rededicate ourselves to the enduring work of ending the scourge of gun violence in our nation.

Here's a rule of thumb: If "AI" seems like a good solution, you are probably both misjudging what the "AI" can do and misframing the problem. >>
Comment by Tom Diettrich on a linkedin post reading:

"You can't "test-in quality" in engineering; you can't "review-in quality" in research. We need incentives for people to do better research. Our system today assumes that 75% of submitted papers are low quality, and it is probably right (I'll bet it is higher). If this were a manufacturing organization, an 75% defect rate would result in bankruptcy.

Imagine a world in which you could have an AI system check the correctness/quality of your paper. If your paper passed that bar, then it could be published (say, on arXiv). Subsequent human review could assess its importance to the field.

In such a system, authors would be incentivized to satisfy the AI system. This will lead to searching for exploits in the AI system. A possible solution is to select the AI evaluator at random from a large pool and limit the number of permitted submissions. I imagine our colleagues in mechanism design can improve on this idea."

A mix of polyurethanes and conversion varnishes (NOT the right way to use these products, but this is art made with waste products), blues and an off-white, forming cells and tendrils.More polyurethane & conversion varnish, more blue & white, but also a red CV clear coat mixing with the white and contrasting with the blue.
