The UK couldn't even properly defend the Cypriot colonies from Iranian strikes earlier this year. We have overseas army facilities in Belize, Kenya and Oman. Naval stations in Singapore and Bahrain. You will note none of these are particularly close to Russia or Eastern Europe.

On reflection, racism on its own is not evil. It’s wrong but may not intentionally cause significant harm or distress. It should be unthinkable to a normal person to be racist, but (in my experience) even ‘nice’ Brits become unaccountably racist when I mention the Traveller children I used to teach.

ps this is where I learnt practically about eristic arguments, with people who just had “HS2 BAD” imprinted on their minds. HS2 is an expensive fuck up, largely because of useless ministers, but also naive clienting, endless changes, canny contractors and the exorbitant cost of compensation.

THIS IS WHY HS2 IS NEEDED. Working in community engagement for a contractor, I cannot count the number of times I had to counteract lazy journalism that stopped at the words “high speed” and failed to mention the compelling need to increase capacity, after billions spent in vain on upgrading WCML.
