A reminder that someone created a bot on here that just skeets out lines from Redwall books describing food. And that's great.

Some people choose to wear white balaclavas and sunglasses & go harass indigenous folks & people of color. I choose to spend time trying to be a more informed and decent person & explain to my 4yo why we wear orange shirts today and tomorrow, and help others do the same. You always have choices.

People underestimate the power of #mariachi. I'll always get misty eyed thinking about that time I was at a conference at UNAM in Mexico City & they closed it w/the uni's mariachi ORCHESTRA walking into the auditorium playing/singing Cielito Lindo & everyone in the auditorium joining in 😭

You can't, and shouldn't seek to, replace public schools or libraries with bookstores. You can't replace a public good with a private business, no matter how well-meaning or well-organized it may be.

That's not to say that there are also examples where using AI increases the mental load; e.g. folks who use it to code extensively (or review a ton of AI-generated code) get burnt out from having SO MUCH MORE code to review than before. ...Which can lead to less code being reviewed, which... Bad?

Examples of findings: AI use in writing atrophies people's skills in writing. Classroom AI use may lead to higher grades on assignments, but lower scores on assessments. Higher AI use leads to higher loneliness, especially (but not exclusively) through voice modalities.

This is a great example of "my experience conflicts with others' experience, therefore others' must not be true." Which is a very human response! But the thing is, there's plenty of research showing that AI *does* impact people's cognitive and psychosocial well-being and abilities.
