I believe it is good to be polite to robots not because they have consciousness (they do not) but because it is bad for the soul to let oneself become a vehicle for cruelty, even if directed at inanimate objects.

"AI is sentient" and "AI chatbots are products designed and meticulously tweaked to do whatever with a smile" are only compatible sentences for people who want power over living beings but will settle for anthropomorphized machines instead.

Not one specific thing, but pretty much most 90s TV ads/bumpers/logos/eye-catches with any kind of liminality or uncanniness. Especially early CG or taped live action with dramatic lighting that removed all sense of time/place. The fact that TV once looked so "off" is the basis for analog horror.

Forgotten Island was really good, even with the rapid pace and some of the typical Hollywood animated movie humor. I'll tell you immediately though it's going to fare better on streaming than in theaters. Also the question "who is this for?" is answered by how much of the licensed music is pre-2005

Namco, Ubisoft, Sony. Do all these companies have an "emergency nostalgic Scrimblo game" button that they only press when they need some good PR? Like, the Pac-Man World remakes were fantastic and Rayman Legends Retold will probably be good too, but they all feel obligatory.

I Don't Sleep Well (Title)
I Don't Sleep Well. The title is rendered in biological looking script. The action takes place in the cross section of an apartment, where the characters are in front of a large window with the angle such that we are looking down on to the street. Insect arms reach out to a woman, whose silhouette is replicated behind her. The moon shines down.

Please stop hedging about programming every time you critique AI. I am sick of hearing non-programmers say things like, "I know that programmers are all using this now, but..." No, stop. We are not all using it. You make the non-users feel like the world has gone mad every time you say this.

We now have official confirmation that Tapas is shutting down. This one stings, as it was the second home for my previous attempt at a webcomic back when Smack Jeeves was on its way out. It is what it is, but at least I have other platforms in mind for future mirrors. tapas.io/newsfeed/272

The paycheck I received last Friday was incredibly meager no thanks to the previously mentioned illness that hospitalized me and put me out of work for a while. I could really use some help accumulating funds to pay for my half of rent and utilities. I'm really sorry I'm resorting to begging again.

You don't hate Meta enough. Not once in the company's entire history, all the way back to its founding, have they acted in good faith. Why anyone would trust the tech industry's most aggressive purposeful violator of your safety and privacy with autonomous anything in 2026 is beyond me.

I haven't really played Mario 64 much on original hardware as I grew up with the PlayStation. But having 100%'d it for the first time just a few months ago, I get why it must have been mind-blowing back then. It probably made every platformer surrounding it already seem obsolete.

An office worker named Bobby sits at his desk with his hands on his keyboard. His co-worker appears in from the left side of view near the chair to Bobby's right, and says: "Sorry again for breaking the live site." Bobby rolls his eyes and says, sympathetically: "You apologized three times already, man, it's fine."He continues with a confident expression, eyes shut as he taps a key on his keyboard: "Next time you push any breaking changes, make *extra* sure you do so to the test site." Out of view, a terminal displays a command he just ran: "ENV=prod .\publish.ps1 --Overwrite". The first line of output reads: "[000.00s] Connecting to host..." The co-worker looks down at Bobby's keyboard, concerned. The next line of output reads: "Purging original files... 5%". The co-worker points at the screen and says: "... Isn't that the-" Bobby appears startled. The line of output now reads: "Purging original files... 10%". Bobby panics and starts tapping a key on his keyboard rapidly, exclaiming: "Wait, no-!". The next line of output reads: "Aborting...". The co-worker relaxes his raised hand and looks at Bobby in response.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a bat hangs upside-down from a telephone line at sunset. The bat is in front of a billboard advertising the Florida Mega Jackpot, which is valued at $5,318,008 - represented with a digital ticker. Panel 2: the POV flips to the bat’s upside-down perspective, which makes the digital numbers look like they spell “BOOBIES”. The bat appears delighted.

Panel 2: another bedbug excitedly bursts through the front door and exclaims, “someone invented beds!” Panel 3: one of the bedbugs looks over their shoulder at the other and says, “you’re joking”

This would have been a legitimately useful feature to implement and build upon 30 years ago. Now? This is going to send some large companies straight back to physical filing cabinets until they're able to adapt.

It's like everyone who came on board to AI because "they can write code now!" thinks the primary argument the rest of us have is "no it can't" So I'll say it: yes AI can write code. I believe you. They can write code. It compiles. It even passes the tests that the AI also wrote. UNFORTUNATELY...

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.
