This kind of mindset is very very common. And when driving past those areas, the same people who would dump their trash in those areas, then judge the people living there for all the junk.

Yes! And it’s not new AT ALL! Growing up I would hear adults talking about needing to get rid of a couch, mattress, or whatever & someone would pipe up with the suggestion to dump it in particular parts of town. Typically low income areas or known homeless gathering places.

There was a bus line in Santa Cruz that had that problem during the last big El Niño. Water washed in & we all just lifted our feet up for a minute or two until the water sloshed back out as we moved away from the shore.

Can local governments do anything to ban robots like the ones being rolled out in Fred Meyers? They are going to take jobs away while furthering the reach of a surveillance state at a time when that most immediately benefits ICE/DHS and most immediately puts at risk immigrants.

New Yorkers, Whistles are on every counter, entry table and coat rack in Minneapolis. These greeted me when I arrived in August - 3D printed.
A welcome note from hosts on a pink post it note on a counter reads “welcome! Keychain whistles of MN Flag for both of you. Text or call with ?s”
Two 3D printed whistles with the pattern of the Minnesota state flag sit next to the note on the counter top.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

The Los Angeles Police Department's officer union said Tuesday it will oppose Measure FD, the half-cent sales tax measure on the Nov. 3 ballot pushed by the city firefighters' union - setting up a bitter and expensive clash between two of the city's most powerful unions.
The Police Protective League said it plans to spend several million dollars on broadcast and digital advertising as well as mailers to oppose Measure FD, which if approved by voters would direct hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the Fire Department to build new stations, hire firefighters and upgrade

My dad (non-believer) & their friends tried to do an exorcism on my mom when they were in their 20s. To be fair, all of them were on A FUCKTON of drugs in those days. Many years later my mom found out her seizures are due to a brain tumor. Smoking pot keeps the seizures in check.

I own a third space in Maine, on my own dime, because that’s how important (especially in rural communities) it is for people to be together IRL with neighbors of all kinds. The Regime doesn’t want that. It messes with their demonization program when we talk and help each other.
