I'll often tell people, if you're afraid of spiders try getting a nice picture of one. Most of them run and hide. The exception is jumping spiders. These wee fuzzballs are curious like miniature cats and some will jump on the camera. Check out this Emerald Jumping Spider selfie. #Arachtober

Dear everyone new. I get overwhelmed easily so I apologize for not following a lot of people even though I find you interesting and I'd like to. I'm not trying to be rude when I don't always reply or interact. And sometimes I disappear for a while to go touch moss. Have a lion's mane jelly.

Ian is standing in an exclosure in a grassland. He is wearing a ball cap, blue jumper, and black trousers. Ian is reaching up to the eddy covariance tower he uses to measure greenhouse gases.

What many people don’t realize is that global temperature records only reflect 1% of the total increase in the earth’s heat content. 89% of this heat is going into the ocean where it's contributing to rising sea levels, deadly marine heatwaves--and stronger & more rapidly intensifying hurricanes.

I love this idea. Negative interest rates for climate solutions. What are we waiting for?
Rather than continuing to focus narrowly on inflation to determine economy-wide interest rates, central banks could create different interest rates for different kinds of investments- establishing high interest rates for carbon-intensive activities and low or zero-interest rates for renewable energy. The Bank of Japan is one of a few central banks that have already started experimenting with such schemes.Central banks can also create zero or negative-interest rates for climate justice investments.
Imagine households could insulate homes, install heat pumps and solar panels - and get paid for it.
And the most vulnerable communities should be served first, not last. If central banks can use negative interest rates to save banks during the COVID crisis, they surely can use such tools to save people and the planet in the climate crisis.
