Haven’t shared in a while, but… I recently updated a proj (.NET 6 to .NET 8) adding some small perf wins and QoL improvements. More importantly: I totally overhauled the documentation! It’s not a very compelling library, but it’s an excuse to play with #fsharp doc tooling. paul.blasuc.ci/ananoid/

I don't think we should look at people with the means to flee the country as abandoning those who can't. I look at them like the seed bank Musk is trying to destroy. We hope we don't need to rely on seeds from our community being planted in other soil... but it's nice to know they're there.

One of the far-right’s greatest wins was to convince the public that being anti-fascist was a far-left ideology. Being anti-fascist is being pro democracy, pro human rights. Being anti-fascist is patriotic.

"For old men like me, transgenderism is a foreign concept.....However, what really convinced me to approve the airman’s request was the airman. Imagine how much courage it took to come into a commander’s office and request such a procedure. That’s courage. And we need more of that in the military."

Interesting failure case for OpenAI's DeepResearch: Competitive intel for work! Companies are incentivized to control the narrative by massively overstating and sometimes lying about what their products actually do. And many end-users don't know or can't tell the difference.

There's a transmasculine version of this. If someone assigned female can become a man, it means there's nothing so special or powerful about men. Each of us has the biological truth of equality between the sexes within us, as demonstrated by the ability of some to pass from one to the other.
Twitter post from @rifflexielian: "Terfs need to shut up about womanhood, my mom was raised to believe all women were less valuable than men and cried when she learned about trans women because the idea that someone would fight that hard to be a woman was radical for her and meant it was something worth being

Not sure if this is wrong or right...but as a tech manager I've never told people what to do. I tell them what the problems might be. Then I walk away. I check in on if they have the support to diagnose and remediate. Eventually, they solve the problem. Turns out this makes for independent thinkers.

One of the hardest classes I took in college was Sociology of Immigration, because we had to look up all these diagrams and all the required forms, and remember what they were. It felt impossible. And that was kind of the point.

More important than this question, is the question of why we still pretend that hiring H1-Bs or US citizens is a zero sum game, when we all know it's more complicated than that. And why we pretend that tech immigration is valid, but agricultural immigration or food service immigration are not. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Finally had time over the holidays to realize a long-standing dream of mine: a hex editor that knows about the PE file and .NET metadata format. You can click any byte and it will show you which data structure it is in the tree. Every byte is covered. The parser is at github.com/KirillOsenko...
Screenshot of a hex editor with a PE file open, on the left there's a tree with the headers, sections and other parts of the file format. On the right there's a typical table of bytes in hex.

I don't see many folks skeeting about Gisèle Pelicot but the trials and sentencings are some of the more heartbreaking and powerful #metoo moments in France. She is a very brave woman and I'm glad she released all of their names and crimes to the public. Scortch these men's lives into the ground.
