I’d’ve loved Moondial to be in here somewhere, representing the kind of six-part children’s serial the BBC used to do so well. But this is a wonderful list, and there’s no arguing with no. 1.

Another thing I found at Dad's was a scrapbook, unseen for decades. It included my two instances of callow correspondence with the BBC, aged 13. Here's one. I'd wanted to learn how to play the Dr Who theme on the keyboard, and what *else* could I do but write to the BBC to request the score? 🤔🤷‍♂️😅
Letter of 11th May 1990 reads, "Dear Paul, Thank you for your letter. I am afraid we cannot send you a copy of the score for Doctor Who. May I suggest that you approach the publishers of the late Ron Grainer i.e. Chappells. Yours sincerely, Brian Hodgson, Head of Radiophonic Workshop."

YES
But the Apollo program wasn't about science. It wasn't about doing anything cheaply or safely. It wasn't about what we would learn by bringing samples back from the Moon, or even about all the technological advances that came out of it. It was, fundamentally, about wonder. It was about expanding our horizons as a species and setting foot on a new world. It was about reaching out into the cosmos, being viscerally connected to it, and bringing that experience back to share with all who have looked up to the stars with a sense of awe and anticipation. It was about the recognition that we are all part of one human race, all living together on a tiny blue marble in the great black void. It was about heroes, like Neil Armstrong. And like my grandfather, too.
