I wondered why the origin of the band name Steely Dan was, and the answer is (!): "Fans of Beat Generation literature, Fagen and Becker named the band after a dildo mentioned in the William S. Burroughs novel Naked Lunch."

Can you revive a zombie river? Our cities are full of rivers that have been buried in concrete after industrial pollution filled them with filth. But there's a global drive to bring them back: to "daylight" these forgotten rivers. I had a lovely day out in Sheffield today, seeing it actually happen.

Re rads, it's a big leaky Victorian house and a) half of them were knackered and b) needed bigger (double panel) radiators due to the lower flow temperature (radiator replacement is common on a heat pump install).

I've read that's because Nordic homes tend to be open plan. We had a heat pump installed recently and it wasn't disruptive at all, just radiators swapped out.
