It’s brilliant the PM has recognised the issues Lib Dems have campaigned on for so long are central to fixing our country & growing our economy. As a result of his speech, social care, closer ties with EU and PR are now firmly in the political mainstream, which is exactly where we want them to be.

Very much enjoying "Centrists of the World Unite! The Lost Genius of Liberalism" by Adrian Wooldridge--beautifully written & intellectually stimulating. For Wooldridge, "centrists" don't refer to vacuous opportunists, but people animated by tolerance, scepticism, experiment, & conscience...

Just the dumbest collection of halfwit confetti emerging out of that conference. Tax cuts everywhere, paid for with imaginary spending cuts. Huge spending projects with precisely zero utility, except to anchor their 'defence day' narrative. Clowns.

The Tory policy of spending £10 billion on a UK Iron Dome is bonkers. Coupled with the policies of free childcare for rich taxpayers, cuts to inheritance tax and abolishing the mansion tax, this all looks unaffordable. How are welfare cuts, quango cuts and zero tax rises meant to pay for this? Mad.

Englishness has never been considered an ethnicity. It is astonishing that many on the British Right do not consider King Charles and Rishi Sunak to be English. If you were kind, you would call these views ignorant xenophobia, if you were being less kind, you would call them blatantly racist.

Spain’s PM Pedro Sánchez calls snap election after housing law fails to pass
Election called after rightwing parties voted down emergency legislation aimed at tackling housing crisis * Europe live – latest updates Spain’s socialist prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, has announced a snap general election three days after rightwing parties torpedoed the emergency legislation his minority government had put forward in response to growing public anger over the country’s housing crisis. Sánchez, who has been in office since 2018, used a televised address to communicate his decision, which had been widely expected. Continue reading...

In my family of formerly staunch Middle England Tories this has gone down like a bucket of cold sick. Plenty of Tories do in fact like the environment and while the party is saying that this won't apply to housing I'm not sure that message will cut through compared to abolition itself.

The motion passed at Green Party Conf' actively undermines a 2-state solution, and does not address the rising threats of Islamophobia and Antisemitism here in the UK. This is a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK, and will leave many British Jews feeling less safe.
