My brother's an economist and it's truly embarrassing to be in a group with him when he introduces himself as a scientist. There are aspects of science in economics but it's pretty weak stuff, almost homeopathic.

As petrol and diesel prices surge in the wake of the continued attacks on Russian refineries and escalating tensions in the Middle East, it is now nine times cheaper to drive an EV than a diesel car in the UK, This means EV drivers save ~£80 when "filling up" www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-evs...

There always has been and there always will be a certain percentage of human population that is unable to care for themselves. It's part of our genetic diversity. So stop treating people on the street with such hostility and offer care instead.

Heatwaves dominate the headlines. But on the other side of the world, Antarctica is deep in winter – and its ice is telling a complicated story. Snowfall is adding mass. Glaciers are releasing ice into the ocean. For now, snowfall is winning – but only just. 🧊 climate.esa.int/en/news-even...

Since 2018, Europe’s forests have been losing 46% more biomass per hectare disturbed forest each year than ever recorded. A new study has determined not just where Europe's forests were disturbed, but how much biomass disappeared along with them.🌲 Read more: climate.esa.int/en/news-even...
These images show the absolute severity (left) and relative severity (right) of above-ground biomass (AGB) density loss from European forests caused by natural disturbances and harvest. Absolute severity measures the loss of above-ground biomass after a disturbance, such as wind, fire or insect damage, or after tree harvesting. Relative severity is a percentage loss relative to the biomass measured before disturbance or harvest. Credit: ESA (data source: Kowalski et al. 2026).
