Limp Bizkit and Nickelback have existed longer and produced more overall good for society than ICE. It's no longer about defending or trying to reform, ICE needs to be eliminated

If you're a fan of a big media property, a really dedicated and invested fan, you have to learn to respond to criticism of that thing in a calm and reasonable manner rather than as a personal attack. In fact, you should learn to do the criticism yourself, without feeling embarrassed for liking it.

There was the rumour about Tom Cruise operating the camera during a lightsaber fight, and if the kid in the movie is force sensitive then it would make sense for her to be there. I could see her showing up in a small role, not much more than a cameo

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is.

Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.

Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.

an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

White Sox beat the Astros, that's good. Padres beat the Cubs, that's bad. Yankees beat the Red Sox, that's bad I guess. I'm mostly indifferent there. Hopefully the Phillies can knock out the Braves to finish up the first round of the playoffs

Finished Wolverine, fun game, didnt get the big twist I expected. There are twists along the way but I kept expecting one that would put it all in line with the 616 canon and it never did. Still a good story, but X-Men purists may not be happy Hacking enemies to bits with your claws is a lot of fun

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

How are we both in like a monoculture but also in a world where I’ll catch a late night interview w/ an actor I’ve never heard of where the host will be like “how does it feel to be on the most popular tv show in America?” And the show is something like “Pills Tomorrow”, 3 seasons deep on Paramount+
