Majority of Britons agree with Burnham that Brexit was ‘wrong turn’ for UK
Andy Burnham hit out at the impact of Brexit and the impact of decisions made in the 1980s as he addressed the House of Commons as prime minister for the first time

Are they going to spend the summer doing the job they were elected to do and are paid to do? They should do their infighting and manoeuvring in their own time, not ours. Selfish, arrogant and completely detached.

Hasn’t he got work to do? There’s an electorate in Manchester that hired him, just as others elected the headless chicken MP’s elsewhere.

Yes. Stop Farage. Stop Reform. Stop the corruption. Stop the racism. Stop the misogyny. Stop the hatred. Stop the cruelty. Stop the incompetence. Stop the division. Stop the threats. Stop the fascism. Stop the failure. Just, ffs, stop him.
Mirror front page:

At 93, former nurse Dorothy is speaking out for the first time in her life. Reform tried to close her care home, to evict her friends from the place they feel safe. They saw an easy target but these terrified pensioners fought back. And Dorothy is urging us all to do the same...

Reform said they wanted to recruit Tories with experience of government… Dodgy Bob Jenrick is now Reform’s Treasury spokesperson. Foreign donations (aka bribes) roll in and Farage is investing millions in Kwasi Kwarteng’s crypto con. Reform is pathologically corrupt. www.ft.com/content/8403...

I'm just relieved nobody is talking about how I said I bought a house in Clacton, then admitted it was in the name of my girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, even though she couldn't afford £885,000, which conveniently meant I avoided £44,000 in tax. Please don't share.

It’s utterly demeaning and spectacularly poorly judged. Any relationship worth anything is based on mutual respect, not insults and abuse followed by fawning ego-stroking of the abuser. What are we saying about ourselves to the world with this? That we are complicit? Or just deeply pathetic?

FFS. The media (not just the rabid anti-EU press) are already on the betrayal narrative. It’s not normal. Rather than Starmer/Labour look back in the future (probably in opposition) and say we should have gone the right thing? Do it now. Be a Labour govt.

The Prime Minister’s plan for immigration will keep people working in key industries like care in temporary status for a decade or more, it will keep people in insecure work, make them more easily exploitable, poorer and marginalised - when did that become the policy of a Labour government?

You might have formed the impression that Paul Johnson, former director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, knows what he's talking about. The media treats him like the voice of God. But here he is - and not for the first time - talking out of his hat. Let's break it down in a short thread. 🧵
This is utter garbage. I believe in net zero. We need to get there. But renewables are not competitive. That's why they are subsidised. Fossil fuel markets are highly competitive. It shouldn't be hard to hold these two thoughts at the same time.

Regretting the past is futile: we should look to the future and continue repairing our relationship with Europe. This can start with aligning, but should not end there. We must strive to realign the UK as an associate member of European agencies, but rejoin key initiatives such as the single market.
Brexit has not been good for our country, for growth, for prices in the shop. It’s almost 10 years since we voted Leave. That ship has sailed, but there’s an awful lot we can do to improve our trading relations. Where that requires alignment in our national interest, we should absolutely align. Rachel Reeves MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
