so there are lots of moral reasons this is bad, and practical reasons too, but it's hard to believe the cia isn't screaming "don't make the jihadists' propaganda for them"

A drone cannot hold ground. Soldiers hold ground. But foot soldiers alone cannot break through defenses hundreds of meters thick and layered. Drones can't either. But with tanks, engineering equipment, and other support assets (drones, air defense, counter-drone assets), they can breakthrough.

I think the mistake here is again an assumption - pardon me, but a *racist* assumption - that only the United States (and Europe) has real agency and the rest of the world are mere passive recipients of American policy rather than active agents in their own story *who can decide to do bad things.*

the tepid media response to an armed man lunging at democrat amy acton reminds me of when a guy got on stage at an event for republican lee zeldin in 2022 and it was immediately called an “assassination attempt” and then “attempted stabbing”—then turned out the assailant was only holding this:

No starker example of the media having different rules for each political party. If the press treated Elon Musk like Hasan Piker, every Republican in America would be forced to answer questions about why their party's biggest donor espouses anti-semitic race science.

look, Deshaun Watson is a terrible person, and he's actively antagonizing the loyal Browns fans still willing to pay money to see this awful team, and he's too old to be a part of the future of the franchise, and he's untradeable. But you've gotta admit: he's also absolutely terrible at football

"Debates over World War II became popular at Heritage, with a lot of “rehashing and going through who was the bad guy and who were the good guys,”" Also, sounds like a lot of anti-Semitism at the Heritage Foundation. Maybe Trump's task force on anti-Semitism could look into this!
Hale told me that he was willing to debate policy; what he wasn’t willing to do was “sit here and discuss whether the Holocaust happened or not.” Discussions among new hires frequently echoed arguments promoted by Fuentes, Carlson and the podcaster Candace Owens that shed doubt on the historical consensus around the Holocaust or the origin of the state of Israel. Hale described a conversation with one new hire who claimed that the publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell — the father of Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime partner and enabler, and a Czechoslovakian Jew by birth — had paid for the rights to all the history textbooks used in public schools in the United States, and that everything in them about the Holocaust was a lie.

This is a misleading argument, based as it is on a single case — the canonical case — of a partisan military leader, and the system worked to remove him. The historical reality is that in the last 100 years, MacArthur is the only real case.

One of the great things about the World Cup is how you get squads no sane mind ever would've designed. World-class defenders with strikers who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, an unstoppable forward with nobody to get him the ball, unbeatable goalkeepers forced to stop 20 shots every match

We haven't had to fire any shots so it's not obvious but a blockade of this magnitude would generally be considered an act of war. We did not do this in the 1962 missile crisis, we allowed ships not carrying weapons to proceed to Cuba

The US and Israel have control of Iran’s skies and are hitting targets at will. To Israel that might be “mowing the grass,” leaving Iran’s missile arsenal and production reduced. But to a global hegemon, failure to get energy resources flowing and stop the economic damage would be a serious loss.
