The tagline "I've been here the whole time" becomes so much weirder.

I think of Ujjal Dosanjh's failed BC NDP premiership the same way I think of Mark Messier's failed Vancouver Canucks captaincy. Factually true, but brief and best forgotten. #bcpoli

We lost a shining beacon of the greatness of humanity last week, my extraordinary friend Andrea Warner. While her writing captures but a sliver of her incomparable self, I'm still grateful it's there. Read this piece and let it be a launching point to some of what she left the world.

We lost one of the very best on Sept. 27.

By far the highest impact climate single action BC has ever done was the low carbon fuel standard, and yet nobody ever brags about it (except me). EV's are great, but going from 1% of vehicles EV to 4% is a tiny fraction of the impact of making all cars 10% less emitting. (random numbers)

Oh no. Andrea was a wonderful person and I really appreciated the times I got to spend with her. And a truly wicked sense of humour.

Isn't it also true that many of the LNG terminals were originally permitted under the Obama administration as import terminals before the shale gas boom started and they just shifted to be export terminals? So they were already permitted well ahead of any expectation of exporting the product

Sorry to see you go Ravi! An amazing MLA and Minister, you did some truly great work over the years! Balancing the demands of public office is never easy, glad B.C. was able to have you in the Legislature these past 9 years!

You're gonna need to narrow down what "the BC poli news" yesterday you're referring to, that's just vague posting at this point given the number of news events per day occurring in BC poli

Rita Johnston managed to last almost a full year, though her leadership was effectively over after 7 months. I think KLF is going to hold the record.

Haha I assume someone died somehow in a short period in the like 1890s? My guess would be tupper, but I don't know how long he was leader before he became PM I think Ernest Hansel, the first Scored leader before WAC Bennett, kind of lasted longer! Kim Campbell even got like six months.

Years ago I would pull US bills when cashing out and replace with Canadian and put it into an envelop at home Every 4-6 months we'd head down for a weekend in Seattle or Portland, and discover I had $300-500 USD. It was a good opportunity to discover the economics concept of "forced savings"

I mean, having worked a ton of bars (including Irish House during the Olympics), yes. But also they were often SURPRISINGLY ok with absurd conversions. Like, highway robbery level conversion. One bar I worked at was attached to a boutique hotel so we had a button for it. It was NEARLY PAR.

A friend here in #YYJ just got a bike for the first time in his adult life because he moved slightly further out from downtown. I think he's truly one of us now. He's become a Victoria cyclist.

Text exchange:
"I am en route
Oh my God these fucking rickshaws in the bike lanes"

Me:"I HATE THEM"

Haven't read the Jack White Skystone series? It's an excellent series of books that I may have read earlier in life than I should have. And a Total War series of games on running a small kingdom like that would be great!

Can I please have a Total War game that lets me play the Jack White Skystone concept???

My only 9/11 thought, as with most, is the moment I learned. Walking to the shower in the morning, mom told me our cat had been hit by a car and killed. As I got to the bathroom I remember hearing my sister, flipping channels on the tv say, in a weird tone, "mom, I think something happened."

Lucille Ball--actress, comedian, producer & film-studio executiver--died #OTD in 1989. In 1962, she bought out Desi Arnaz's interest in Desilu Productions & became the 1st woman to own & run a major TV studio. Desilu produced many popular TV series including Mission: Impossible & #StarTrek. #legend

This classic black-and-white studio portrait captures the legendary Lucille Ball (1911–1989), an American actress, comedian, and pioneering studio executive. Best known for her iconic role in I Love Lucy, Ball was the first woman to lead a major television studio, Desilu Productions. In this elegant, close-up composition, Ball looks directly at the camera with a calm and poised expression. Her light-colored hair is styled in elaborate, high-volume rolls that sweep upward from her forehead, typical of the sophisticated 1940s glamour. She wears a shimmering, light-toned jacket with a subtle grid pattern that catches the light. Her ensemble is accented by large, round, sparkling cluster earrings that draw attention to her face. The lighting is soft yet focused, highlighting her perfectly applied makeup—defined brows, dark mascara, and a polished, dark lip color. The background is softly out of focus, featuring a neutral, textured wall with organic, leaf-like shadows that create a sense of depth.

Without saying your age, what is your favorite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? A lot of movies I've seen subsequently that I like, but I don't think I saw a lot of movies that year. I don't think this one holds up as well, but it's still great. (honourable mentions in thread)

Seattle’s infill boom from 2000 to 2020 “eliminated about 1 million tons of potential greenhouse gas emissions basically for free… this category of climate action has been better than a free lunch. It’s been a lunch the region got paid to eat.”
