A friend here in #YYJ just got a bike for the first time in his adult life because he moved slightly further out from downtown. I think he's truly one of us now. He's become a Victoria cyclist.

I obviously advocated for the most perfect movie ever made. We've lost so much of the cast, Sean Connery, James Earl Jones, Fred Thomson, Richard Jordan, Joss Ackland, and of course Sam Neill. And if you ignore a couple of them, they were all wonderful people!

I just finished listening to Sir Pat Stew's memoir, he reads it out and it's delightful! The first half he name dropped so many british actors and I think I only managed to know Brian Blessed and Rod Steiger (thanks to the 1970 Waterloo!). Still a delightful first half but... 1/2

Earlier this year I had the shock of losing one of my best friends from high school. Yesterday we all got together for a celebration of life. A friend printed this photo out for us, and I can't get over how nice a gesture that was! Life comes at you fast and it was a trip looking back yesterday

Victoria’s real-estate market posted its first month of higher year-over-year sales in April since July of 2025, while average prices for condominiums and townhomes jumped compared to 12 months ago, according to the latest data from the Victoria Real Estate Board.

April’s 643 sales were one unit higher than last April, a small but meaningful win for 2026 which started off with a marked monthly sale reduction compared to early 2025, following a slower fall compared to 2024.

Very little gets used for potholes. The BCTFA, which does a host of things, has a budget of $16bn while the motor fuel tax and sales tax on car rentals combine for $500m. And it's muni's that fill most potholes, funded from property taxes.

My Fitbit recently "upgraded" to include AI reviews of my activities, but it is relentlessly and insipidly positive. This is my bike ride to work that I would have described as "routine and unremarkable" "The first ten minutes" were also the only ten minutes of the ride. This slop is so useless.

A Thousand Ships @nataliehaynes.bsky.social Audiobook by author, it's great! Retelling the Illiad (and Odyssey and even a bit of Aeneid!) from the womens' perspective. Really good, Penelope not having anybody Odysseus' shit was great. Cassandra, Helen, Calliope all appear, and even Clytemnestra!

My partners sister got me a horseradish start for Christmas last year, and today I finally harvested the first bit. If it's half as sharp and spicy as it smells it's going to be a potent horseradish!

You'd have to bulldoze a coffee shop though! The current ROW has what used to be a Starbucks and is now an independent coffee shop straddling it at Granville Island, and I'm still very curious how that was managed.
