For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

I could only get so far. The false starts, the jagged sentences, the wretchedly impoverished vocabulary, the reaching for intensifiers as he struggles to express himself forcefully, the bluster, the recurring preoccupaton with his wounded vanity, the childish grievance (continues forever)

Women didn't get much of a mention in Andy Burnham's powerful conference speech, but his promise of a national social care service, free at the point of use and available in every home, is one of the most feminist policies I've seen. Thread... 👇

The decadence entailed in electing twice someone as unfit, corrupt, invincibly ignorant and insatiably greedy as Trump is something for which the whole world will pay a price. The question is how big the blast radius of his presidency will be. I'd say it's touch and go.

I know we're all tired of the "they just said it out loud" shtick but it feels noteworthy that the secretary of defense is articulating the Garrison State as an explicit objective of the American christian fascist project.

That Ofcom with its colossal senior salaries and 900 staff is "still investigating a GB News interview with Donald Trump from almost 11 months ago" tells you why it needs a complete clear out. What Lisa Nandy does all day remains a mystery.

Oligarchs. The word for very rich businesspeople directly connected to the top of the government and playing a role in high-level government functions is “oligarchs.” Way beyond lobbying, donating, and advisory councils. Trump brought them on his trip to China too. America has oligarchs now.

When was the last time our Secretary of State for Culture displayed anything approaching this degree of public enthusiasm for our world-class arts industry? Has she been seen anywhere? Given impending charter renewal... did she even bother to visit a single prom?

After being comprehensively shit-canned by voters in 2024, am delighted to see Penelope Enormous Hair enjoying a second career as leading light of government propaganda films. Won't be watching though due to being viscerally unable to tolerate the Gove pustule.
Penelope Mordor seated at Cobra meeting table woefully ill-equipped with biscuits or even coffee, gazes mournfully at screen predicting enormous bomb to be dropped on UK which, as things go, would probably improve it.

I understand the outrage at the rampant fascists but, look: our national press has been telling the public that the streets are infested with ethnic sex offenders and migrant rapists, set loose by secret communists, for *fifteen years* now. And not sotto voce either, power-blasting it constantly.

I get why people are asking “what have we become?” but the answer is “exactly what you’d expect from a decade and a half of the press reciting the spicier bits of Mein Kampf at the public, and our whole ruling class agreeing we need to crack down on the lesser races and their Bolshevik allies”.

I have opted for different styling in that several of the shelves in my fridge are held together with gaffer tape. Have serious thoughts of making a video demonstrating how no amount of packaging layers will prevent the contents of jar of Patak's spice paste from escaping.

What on earth is happening?
This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.
