The Musician (Le Musicien) www.brooklynmuseum.org/opencollecti…
"The Musician (Le Musicien)" by Marc Chagall embodies the artist's signature blend of vibrant colors and expressive forms, depicting a bearded figure cradling a violin against a dynamic background. Chagall's works often reflect his Eastern European Jewish heritage, and this painting captures a whimsical yet poignant connection to music often seen in his art.

I’m thinking, wouldn’t it be nice to paint a message under the blackbirds toes on the white banded area. The purchaser could choose the words, perfect for themselves or the recipient if it’s a gift. Blackbird & Ivy Bee icon available now. Dm for details

Jackson Pollock : The Key, 1946 Oil on linen 149.8 × 208.3 cm | 59 × 82-1/16 in The Art Institute of Chicago Further description in the alt text 👇
This masterpiece represents a vital turning point in Pollock’s career. It bridges his early, Picasso-influenced, quasi-Surrealist style with the revolutionary, full-body "allover" drip paintings that debuted the very next year.

Key is one of the most prominent works from Pollock's Accabonac Creek series. The collection was named after a stream near the East Hampton, Long Island property that he and his wife, painter Lee Krasner, bought in late 1945.

Because the massive canvas took up most of the floor space in his upstairs bedroom, Pollock was forced to lay it flat on the ground and work directly from all four sides. This physical shift away from the traditional easel fundamentally catalyzed his later action-painting methodologies.

My cat got to the top of a 4 storey (flats) converted victorian house we'd just moved into. Right to the top and howled all night. Fire brigade came with huge ladders on trucks. Got to the roof, when the cat ran down....

I open up my Work. Between the delivery of building materials, 14 volunteers arriving in five different vehicles, a barking dog & my busy mind, I tried to find the balance. Select the brush. Mix the paint. I feel a moment of calm opening within me. Safe in my studio enjoying the alchemy of paint

And breath…..if I’m a bit quiet on here this week it’s because I’m looking after my mother and not in my studio. Grabbing a moment to think about my work in the garden before it’s time to do the bedtime routine again 🩷

Feeling very sorry for myself. I’ve had a fortnight of excruciating pain in my ‘good’ knee, not able to leave the house, let alone drive. And now my tooth, the one I had lengthy root canal treatment on, has broken off. I feel like General Franco, dying tiny bit by tiny bit (but without the fascism)

Max Ernst : Animals of the Night (Some animals are illiterate), 1973, Vence, France 72.5 × 47.5 cm Created late in his career when he was in his 80s for the exhibition of Max Ernst at the Alphonse Chave gallery. Further info in the alt text 👇
The Subconscious and Dream Logic:
The artwork captures Ernst's lifelong fixation with metamorphosis, primal instincts, and the dream state. The layout features hybrid creatures—fusing properties of birds, beasts, and ghostly apparitions—emerging out of a heavily textured darkness.

Masterful Lithography:
The print utilizes highly refined lithographic layering and smooth gradations to create an atmospheric, otherworldly haze where forms materialize directly out of a cosmic subconscious background.

Late-Career Evolution:
While it retains the biting, youthful experimentation of his 1920s Dada and Surrealist periods, Animals of the Night shifts toward a more meditative, cosmic, and mythic framework where dream logic entirely overrides intellect.
