I say this as someone with a masters in education who has taught in college, and had a father who was a college professor: most people who teach at colleges have zero expertise in education. It’s the opposite elementary and secondary, where people are experts in education & not their subject matter.

I teach middle school, high school and college. Most of these kids are better and more considerate than kids were in the 80s and 90s. The others stand out. It’s a legitimate concern. Entitlement, lack of empathy and no inquisitiveness combined with laziness and grievance.

I say this as an adjunct son of an assoc. professor. (And I have a full time teaching gig.): By far, most El/Mid/HS teachers are experts in teaching, not in their subject matter. Many college profs have been experts in subject matter & teaching. But too many today don’t understand how to teach.
