The interest rate the senator charges to patients would have put his $700 bakery debt at $1,889.69, but he considered it fair to pay the baker $1,400.

Building the ramp could allow almost every Amtrak train to have significant time savings, including eliminating the reverse move needed for Illini/Saluki/CoNO trains and moving the Lincoln Service onto the Rock, bypassing three congested freight diamonds between Chicago and Joliet.

Job lock adversely affects the labor market structure and benefits capitalists. Medicare for all—politically unviable until it’s not—isn’t just a health care proposal, but a way to reconfigure the labor market. Telling that for the current admin, even the ACA offered workers too much of a lifeline.

One side obsession from my research into the 1920s is the extensive network of ELECTRIC trains that used to connect cities and towns across the central Midwest called the Interurban. We had this more than a hundred years ago. The things we had and the things we lost.

OCTOBER 1971 SESSION
OCTOBER 14, 1971

SENATOR EGAN:

Mr. President and welcome members of the Senate. I am sure you are all familiar with senate bill 64. It has been called the barber bill. When I think of the discussion and misinformation that has been generated by this piece of legislation, I think of my old college English Professor who used to say many times that "The trouble in the world is not what people don't know, it's what they do know that just ain't so."
