The interest rate the senator charges to patients would have put his $700 bakery debt at $1,889.69, but he considered it fair to pay the baker $1,400.

I'm reading this article now and am wondering why I haven't seen more about it. It's by Dexter Filkins, who is knowledgeable in the areas of Kushner's "diplomacy." I'll keep comments closed until I've finished the article.

Building the ramp could allow almost every Amtrak train to have significant time savings, including eliminating the reverse move needed for Illini/Saluki/CoNO trains and moving the Lincoln Service onto the Rock, bypassing three congested freight diamonds between Chicago and Joliet.

Obama was a moderate. That said, Pres Obama is not Sen Warren (White House v. Congress dynamic; & racist obstruction of Obama’s agenda), and Obama contended with a Senate with a different Republican caucus. Apropos of each: Warren won incremental narrow reforms; Obama won incremental broad reforms.

Job lock adversely affects the labor market structure and benefits capitalists. Medicare for all—politically unviable until it’s not—isn’t just a health care proposal, but a way to reconfigure the labor market. Telling that for the current admin, even the ACA offered workers too much of a lifeline.

It can be entertaining. Walking through my neighborhood, I witnessed a guy trying to maneuver his truck and boat leaving home. He quickly lost patience, so none of his neighbors’ yards on either side of the street were safe. (Fortunately I had stopped and waited on the sidewalk at a safe distance.)

It drives me crazy. GOP presidents repeatedly give us debt-fueled tax policies. A republican was in the IL gov’s mansion for the bipartisan pension contribution holidays/reimbursement ramp. Ignoring consequences, IL conservatives think bankruptcy is a responsible alternative to a balanced budget. 🤷🏻‍♂️

💯 C-U has extremely affordable transit. It’s very campus-centric, so the further away from campus, the more it resembles other cities of the same size (frequency and bus stop density). The weekend and evening service is excellent. Ever since moving away, I’ve missed transit availability on Sun..

The 2026 proposed legislation has a 81% to 19% split of guaranteed funding for highways versus transit/rail. The 2021 legislation had a 69% to 31% split of funding for highways versus transit/rail. We're going backwards in terms of expanding access to transportation options.
