Lesenswertes Interview mit Henrike Lähnemann über Frauenklöster im Mittelalter: Frauen im Kloster: Spottlied auf den Priester (Paywall) www.spiegel.de/geschichte/f... #medievalsky

Congratulations to Tom Kuhn & the Brecht team on their award-winning 'brecht: fragments' exhibition which was named as "one of the worldwide best exhibitions or 2024"! @ox.ac.uk ravenrow.org/exhibitions/...
This exhibition is the first to address the collagist methods of legendary modernist playwright, poet and theorist, Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956). He treated much of his dramatic work as fragments in a state of flux, and also gathered and arranged found images both as an independent project and to inform his writing.

Original visual material from Brecht’s archive, most of which he collected and worked on during the Second World War while in exile from Nazi Germany, is on display in three galleries. Facsimiles of pages from his visually animated manuscript for The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui (1941) are shown on the top floor.

Brecht constructed much of his dramatic writing as if it were a series of snapshots. Narrative ideas, situations and segments of dialogue were subject to continuous cutting and rearrangement, often literally, using scissors and glue. Scenes from four of Brecht’s dramatic fragments from the 1920s are performed twice-daily during the exhibition. Written for the most part collaboratively, as formal experiments rather than resolved plays, these texts reveal Brecht’s early investigations into politics and economics, and his pursuit of a dramatic form which could argue effectively for radical social change. An excerpt directed by Brecht from the film Kuhle Wampe (1932) plays on the lower ground floor.A collage of photographs showing the display cases.
brecht: fragments is curated by Phoebe von Held, in collaboration with Tom Kuhn, Alex Sainsbury, and Iliane Thiemann from the Bertolt Brecht Archive at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. With great thanks to the Akademie der Künste for their support in the development of this exhibition.
