As many of you will be aware, the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA) awarding body in Northern Ireland is to discontinue GCSE and A-level German. This is a real blow to language education in Northern Ireland, depriving future generations of the opportunity to learn German.

Colleagues at Newcastle University congregated this week to toast the opening of the “Elias Canetti. A Jewish Émigré in Britain: People, Places, Impressions 1939-1988” exhibition. The exhibition will remain on show in the Old Library Building throughout March.
