According to a local immigration attorney on ig, Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, the man shot by ICE in Austin today is Venezuelan with no criminal history or final order or removal. ICE surrounded his car and shot him through the back window. He was transported to the hospital. No status on condition.

Just days before Governor Abbott directed the acting comptroller to investigate school districts for "administrative bloat," an audit of the Texas Education Agency revealed a full-blown bureaucratic sprawl sitting inside the very institution positioning itself as the classroom-spending watchdog.

I am a trans person. I am from Texas. I am telling you this is normal politics and that politicians routinely say things differently to different audiences. We undermine our politicians when we make it impossible for them to do this kind of everyday political doublespeak

Karl Rove, who spent his entire adult life getting Republicans elected and has voted straight Republican for decades is now a fake Republican because he drew the line at "deport all Muslims and Indians"
A tweet from a senior editor at the right-wing Texas Scorecard, asking if anyone is surprised Karl Rove is voting for a Democrat (because he finds Bo French too extreme)

Texas is delaying its typical September 1 release of maternal mortality data until December 1, conveniently timed to be after the midterm election. Recent reports have shown a sharp rise in ectopic pregnancy deaths after the abortion ban went into effect. www.austinchronicle.com/news/texas-p...

For a story i'm working on, if you're a trans voter in Texas with thoughts about James Talarico's stance on trans athletes or Gina Hinojosa's pronouns ad yesterday, i'd love to hear from you. I did this story 2 years ago with Colin Allred, time flies. www.chron.com/culture/arti...
chron.com
Colin Allred won't use the word 'transgender.' That bothers some voters.
As Ted Cruz attacks Colin Allred with anti-trans ads, transgender voters and advocates see a "spineless" candidate.

“Having a uniform and predictable set of legislatively imposed rules to govern the release of their papers going forward would not only help to increase the Court’s transparency, but it would also reaffirm that the justices’ work, which increasingly *affects* all of us, also *belongs* to all of us.”

248. The Justices’ Papers
Leaving to the whims of individual justices the fate of their papers is a recipe for inconsistency and obscurity for records with significant historical value.

I keep banging the “USAID was good and we must confront the obscene wave of death MAGA’s destruction of it unleashed” drum because I *desperately* want Democrats and the Left to prioritize rebuilding global aid. We should rebuild it better, but we can’t just let Musk’s global massacre continue.

A year a half a ago, this professor made a plainly false statement that “an entire literature” existed— it didn’t—and then got multiple justices to buy into the historical fiction he backfilled, covering 800 years in a few weeks. A bastardized history, not in the search for truth, but for power.
