This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

In 1942, the American President opposed censorship because books were weapons in the fight against tyranny.

From “Parable of the Talents” by Octavia Butler #skybrary #skybrarians #booksky

A screenshot of a poem. The poem reads:
Choose your leaders
with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward
is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool
is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief
is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar
is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant
is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

Don't Hesitate, by Mary Oliver.

If You suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don't hesitate. Give in to it. It. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

for #smallpoemsunday, here’s “Song” by Ted Berrigan and one by me from @postcardlit.bsky.social :)

Song

When having something to do
but not yet being at it
because I’m alone, because of you
I lay down the book, & pick up the bed

& move it around until it is
where it is what it is l am doing
that is the something I had to do
because I’m no longer alone, because of you.

TRANSCENDENTALISM

If I hold a bird
back from greatness
if I tell the sea the secret
of who I wish I was
maybe it’ll break
my cover. I’ve been
incognito as the wind
for decades
bane to
insurance men

& little pigs,
willing
accessory
to song

Mukula Kadima-Nzuji, tr. Gerald Moore

Love in the Plural

neither this sobbing ocean
in the moon of your swelling voice
nor the milky vapour
on the window of my waking
nor this flood of men
in the margin of my shadow
which yearns for a safe shelter
nor the slipstreams on camelback
in the desert of my solitude
nor the spindrift nor the seaweeds
pillows for my storm-filled head
are able to decipher
where I inspect myself in vain
the reverse side of mirrors.
