BIG NEWS. This expands the circuit split, which is now 2-2 (a 7th Circuit panel split 1-1-1). And importantly, it's a decision out of the 11th Circuit, in which multiple large detention centers sit (Georgia, Florida, and Alabama); meaning more people detained there should be able to get bond.

The public made noise for Liam Ramos and it got him released from Dilley. Now we must make noise for 7 year old Diana Crespo. Her parents were taking her for emergency medical care when ICE grabbed them, and she’s rotting in the camp sick and exposed to measles. Get them out!

Beyond helping establish DHS itself in 2003, Mr. Mitnick was a senate-confirmed Trump choice for General Counsel for DHS in his first term. I've talked with him a few times, and he's not a man for hyperbole. So bear that in mind when you see him calling out DHS's "lawlessness, fascism, and cruelty."

Criminal investigations for nothing but speech; the administration’s contempt for the First Amendment could not be more clear.

The subpoenas suggest that the Justice Department is examining whether Walz's and Frey's public statements disparaging the surge of officers and federal actions have amounted to criminal interference in law enforcement work. The law under which they are investigating the two officials, a federal statute on conspiracy to impede a federal investigation, is similar to the charges filed against protesters whom federal officials allege have attempted to block immigration officers as they do their work.
