It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

Thread: The enormous unprecedented SCALE of the American AI investment boom is "crowding out" investment going into any other sector of the economy. At this point in mid 2026, it is literally sucking away all factors of production -capital, land, labour, knowledge, ecology. @katemac.bsky.social

It's been a while since I shared something about Tournevie, but here's some news that merits a post: a 33% expansion of our tool collection! Let's hope that translates to more people joining our citizen #commons project in #Brussels :)

It has been an extraordinary 24 hours, with tit-for-tat border controls between Spain and Italy resulting in checks in both countries. The fault lies with a 🇪🇺President who has refused to do her job as the guarantor of the Schengen treaty. My take:
davekeating.substack.com
Schengen is unravelling. Where is von der Leyen?
The Commission has for years been letting national capitals play political games with Schengen "temporary" exemptions. Now Sanchez says: 'You want to play games? Let's play games.'

4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A post from “kavishj9611” that reads:

“All the people who are anti-Al or want to slow Al progress, I have one question:
If Al disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire workday without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other
Al tool?
Imagine Al was suddenly banned.
Would you actually be willing to give it up?”

Panel 2:
And Orange Guy and a Pink Guy are standing in a room that has two pipes in it. Both pipes are pumping raw sewage into the room. The characters are waist deep in it.
Orange Guy says smugly “Ok Mr “I don’t want to be in a room that’s filling up with raw sewage” let me ask you this”

Panel 3:
The sewage has reached their chests. Pink Guy is gagging. Orange Guy smugly continues “If all this sewage disappeared right now, could you get through the day without it?”

Panel 4:
The sewage is almost up to their eyeballs. Orange Guys says “Look at that shit floating past your face. Are you willing to give that up?”

A fascinating write-up. An aside that jumped out at me: European electricity users face "a few minutes of outages per year" whereas US users face 2-11 _hours_ per year. One of the hidden economic variables that may explain why US quality of life relative to Europe's is overstated by income stats?

Just IN: If you've used ChatGPT for writing or brainstorming in the last 6 months, your creative ability may already be permanently damaged.
A controlled experiment just proved the effect doesn't reverse when you stop using it.
3,302 creative ideas. 61 people. 30
days of tracking.
Researchers split students into two groups. Half used ChatGPT for creative tasks. Half worked alone.
For five days, the ChatGPT group outperformed on every metric.
Higher scores. More ideas. Better output. Al was making them better.
