To repeat: NZ finds itself at the bottom of the OECD on lobbying - we basically have no effective rules governing lobbying This is eroding voter trust in democracy. It is corruption in plain sight NZ needs fair transparent regulations-any political parties ensuring this will get voter support

ACT, New Zealand First and TOP jostling to be National coalition partners reminds us why it is structurally critical for the Alliance to return to Parliament. Labour & the Greens need a a third partner to build a serious government of the left, ever more so given that TPM is struggling.

Not sure if this is a particularly controversial opinion on bluesky, but Faith No More's live albums are some of the tightest versus their studio work, particularly Mike Patton's voice.

I didn't think Twitter could get worse, but it truly has become a far-right toxic waste dump.

Great piece.
Screenshot from the link in the quoted post:“Long Wave represented an idea that now feels almost quaint: that an entire nation might be listening together. One frequency. One schedule. One shared conversation. Before algorithms selected our entertainment, Long Wave simply assumed that millions of people might enjoy hearing the same thing at the same time.”

Besides the excellent news about Andy Burnham getting in, very troubling to see fascist party Restore Britain coming 3rd. Glass half-full take: history repeats, and the National Front couldn't translate their by-election results in 1977/78 into general election success.

Westpac NZ is gonna make about a billion dollars in profit this year and still begs for donations for the chopper appeal. It’s a worthy cause but they could just fund it. Profits are stupid in the face of human lives.

I asked a couple dads at school if they knew our government was killing off basic science. They hadn't heard a thing It's a crime against journalism that the NZ press isn't all over the dissolution of the Marsden Fund, and a crime against academia that our universities aren't yelling to the rafters

This is interesting news - the Maritime Union of NZ has formally affiliated with the Alliance Party. It's the first time a union in nz has ever affiliated with a party other than labour: m.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO26...

Urrak is my favourite alcohol. Who'd have thought that the first distillate of cashew fruit would be so delicious?!
