“These are people who had official documentation allowing them to work, and live, in the U.S. But their status in the United States was always subject to the discretion of the executive branch. The Trump Administration has exploited such ambiguities over and over again. Since January, 2025, the White House has stripped more than a million people of T.P.S. and similar protections. Call it the Great Delegalization.

People with Temporary Protected Status were never, precisely, safe. Instead, they lived in the chasm between most Americans’ assumptions about immigration status and what the law actually requires. T.P.S. status provides no legal mechanism to apply for a green card, or any other immigration status. Instead, people have had to spend time and money just to remain in place. “

We’ve update our Medicaid enrollment tracker and the news for children isn’t good. Since January 2025 there has been a shocking drop of 2.3 million kids enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP. This means the child uninsured rate is likely going up.

Fortunately, there is still time to improve this proposal. Recognizing the unfolding hunger crisis and the need delay the cost shift for all states is an important first step, but the urgency of this crisis demands a stronger response. Kids in this country deserve better.

@evanurquhart.bsky.social I agree some people are blind - but I also see many who recognize where we are and are fighting back with all the tools - organizing (community & political), mutual aid, litigation, advocacy, etc. Even in a terrible time, fighting side by side with them gives me hope.

On average from 2020 to 2024, nearly 41% of children in Ward 8, which is majority Black, lived below the poverty line, compared to 3.8% of children in Ward 3, which is majority white. It is clear that any discussion of child poverty in DC must center the needs of Black children and their families.

Fun fact I just noticed: The U.S. had about half as much total job growth in 2025 (total) as during an average *month* during the Biden administration. 181k net jobs added over the entire course of 2025, versus average of 329k each month from 2021-2024.
