Titled "Lake with Cypress" and was created by French artist Camille Bombois (1883-1970).
This oil-on-canvas painting captures a serene, sun-drenched river or lake flanked by towering cypress and deciduous trees, rendered with rich textures and delicate brushwork characteristic of French artist Camille Bombois. The composition draws the eye down a shimmering water channel where the soft afternoon light reflects across the ripples and lily pads, creating a tranquil, luminous atmosphere. In the distant background, hazy blue hills and hints of a small hillside structure evoke the peaceful, idyllic countryside of a classic European landscape.

Don’t know who wrote this — it was posted on Instagram by “Warpaint Journal” in April 2025 — but it’s making the rounds today and is pretty great. I dream of this too ❤️
Most people don't dream of being fancy-rich.
I dream of being rich enough to say, "Treat's on me," without thinking twice. Rich enough to have a home that feels like a hug, a fridge stocked like a five-year-old with adult money, and a tray of chocolates waiting for someone to grab. Rich enough to quietly help a friend before they even have to ask. To send a care package when someone's too tired to reach out. To buy all the pencils from a kid on the street so they can go home early. For me, the real money dream isn't about luxury - it's about having enough to give, enough to comfort, enough to turn ordinary moments into something extraordinary.

Monkey Do

A million podiums built
from the exact same branch.
We haul the old cargo
from savanna to screen—
across borders and ballots,
hurling it upward
in the same wet arc.
We keep our aim,
standing ankle-deep
in what returns.

The winter was a heavy stone,
That bit the frost into the bone.
We leave it in our yesterday,
To strip the coming storm away.

For what is held in present tense
Becomes a wall, a future fence;
But fold the hurt in quiet ink,
And watch the dark tomorrow shrink.

Dissolution

The heavy petal falls away,
unnoticed in the silken dark,
where simple breath replaces day,
and leaves no memory, no mark.

To be a pulse, a curve of skin,
untangled from the world's design,
where boundaries end and we begin,
and ink dissolves the final line.

William Corbett, that last line
A SHOWER IN JUNE

Peeling a hard boiled egg
the downpour curls my hair
flick of shell into garbage can
where does memory not intrude?
Another June whose roses
swung “stitched and gored,”
the very words, across stone
swallows this rain and birds’
broken song. Memory
gorges every single thing
who are we to forget so much?

but in the forge of the chest,

Soft, bruised,
swallowing the blow—
using the heat of the tearing

The player wakes within the play,
While atoms of the self decay.
Where ancient starlight learns to see,
Through nerves of frail humanity.

The dreamer stirs, the vision ends,
As light and heavy matter blends,
And while the cosmic secrets roar,
The forecast calls for rain at four.

The earth is heavy where secrets sleep,
In silence held beneath tangled roots,
Where memories, like stones, lie deep,
The press of years their bitter fruit.

To pull them upward is to tear the grass,
To feel the grit beneath searching nail,
And watch the ghosts of buried seasons pass,
In fragments jagged, colourless and pale.

But once the loam is brushed from every face,
And light finds surfaces that long were blind,
The stones become a steady, grounding grace
The solid foundations of the mind.

"I didn't mean to fall out of bed after sex" by Lin Hart @poetry-with-hart.bsky.social #nationalpoetrymonth #poem #poetry
I didn't mean to fall out of bed after sex
but don't worry, it'll probably happen again.

Call it applause, call it a compliment,
call me whatever name you like, call me back.

The early stages of falling for each other,
pushing and pulling against unseen forces

until the resistance collapses and
hearts accelerate at 9.8m/s².

Along my equator I grow hungry and
weaker for the sight of you standing to wash

offering me a hand to help me up
that I decline, because I like the view.

This is how we communicate, bodies in heat
reaching pinnacle velocity, then cooling

grounded in the fact that we are not one soul,
but two separate entities orbiting the truth

that we may collide but never reach understanding
of one another, or of love for that matter,

but that goes without saying,
down here on the floor.

I’ve been a bit scatterbrained over the past couple of days trying to get my latest ebook out. I also went back into Aion’s Wake and made some edits and changed the cover to better match the story. If you bought the earlier version, you can re-download it on Kindle to get the updated edition.

Oh, and P.S., the picture might be a little misleading. It’s not a story set on Mars, but if you read the second book, the reference will make sense. The same goes for the book cover and its muted, drab colors and texture.

Part of it comes from a personal place, and it also felt almost like a duty to complete an arc in The Uru Chronicles. (which is good 'cause I tend to be dutiful) It may feel out of place from the start, but trust me... it all comes together in the end. I hope you enjoy it.

THE CYTHERS is available now! I’ve been waiting a long time to put this out into the world. I’ve wrestled with this idea for years because of its subject matter. I even questioned whether it was derivative or gratuitous sometimes. But in the end, I knew I had to tell this story.

Yesterday I saw a picture of a Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris) and knew I had to draw it. They are really pretty. I also had a good laugh when I realised they are called "Papstfink" in German, which translates back to "pope finch". Fitting for a member of the cardinal birdfamily 😄 #birdart

I wrote a poem
I am mother moon
you can see my bright side
watching you
loving you
protecting you
since before your time
I have hidden the hurt side
pockmarked, broken
in darkness on purpose
what mother shows that to her children?
now you can see my everything
what I did and how often
to shield you from harm
I am now naked yet
you clothe me with your love
tonight
I shine brighter

Day 6 is Steven Heighton’s Selected Poems (1983-2020). I don’t like when poets die, especially when it seems that they ought to have had more time to be here with us. I am, though, always so grateful for what they leave behind—their voices clear and strong. These are a couple of my favourites.

Saltwater

Everyone who terrifies you is 65 percent water.
And everyone you love is made of stardust, and I know sometimes
you cannot breathe deeply, and the night sky is no home, and
that you are down to your last 2 per cent, but
nothing is infinite, not even loss.
You are made of the sea and the stars, and one day,
you are going to find yourself again.

I drew the seagull with pencil and the painted in the colours using wet on wet method allowing colours to blend. Masking the seagull with my hand and card I splattered paint for the background and before it dried blew through a straw to mix the colours further. Finally I drew round the seagull outline with black pen and put in details such as the feathers.

An excerpt from Hanif Abdurraqib's On Seatbelts and Sunsets:

And God, if you are listening, I do worry. God, if you are listening, I count the miles between my body and the body of the person I love and I worry about each of them. God, I worry about the planes we take to each other and the sky that might not hold them. God, I wear seatbelts and visit the graves of my friends in spring to kick away the dirt from winter. God, it is just us talking now, and I worry about everything I can’t control. God, can you tell me how much longer I’ll get to be alive and in love. God, I am sorry for the times I didn’t want to stick around. God, there is a scroll of things I have taken for granted in order to survive this long, and it is endless. And it is maybe too late to want to live forever after everything I’ve seen and done. But there are freeways between me and the person I love, God. And I don’t have enough time to travel all of them. I worry that I can’t bend them all into a giant circle from where I begin to where she begins. God, I don’t know what I believe in except the shrinking of distance. God, do you worry about the things you can control? I am enough in love to worry about everything that might cast a shadow over it. God, I have touched the living face of a person I love with the same hands I have touched the dying face of someone I love and none of that seems fair. God, I am enough in love that I want to make everything about it an endless circle, with a sunset at the top of every hour. I know this is all too much, God. But as long as you’re not tired yet of talking, it helps.

Easter is here.
Easter

For years I trusted ruin
was the only beauty.
Now I wake my one son
in the darkness, and carry him
to find the gifts I've hidden.

Three times
I have courted death
in this one life—with whiskey,
with bitter pills, with winter—
my own heart
like a traitor
with its kiss.

No more, no more closing.
Now I stand in morning
with this child
and the blossoms lift
their faces to the radiance.

Love
says two things,
and one is greater:
I would die for you.
I would rise for you,
                                   and live.
