I don't usually post about TV, but a few years ago, I cancelled Netflix after the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things. It ended on a cliffhanger, and I was annoyed. I knew how long it had been since the previous season, and didn't like the idea of waiting that long to see the next installment.

Radley Balko is always worth reading, but when he talks about police militarization, he’s speaking as one of the most qualified journalists we have. He’s rather apocalyptic about where we are with a huge ICE force. He’s right. open.substack.com/pub/radleyba...

The police militarization debate is over
Quaint disputes about the proper role of police and military have been superseded by a more urgent threat: Donald Trump is creating his own, personal paramilitary force

With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending

I'm at work, and about to get back to work, but before I do, I'm yelling into the void at how INSANE it is that it seems like we're about to have WW3, yet I STILL have to be concerned with my day job building cloud-based marketing software. TBF, if WW3 DOES break out, I'mma take a personal day. 🫤

Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

The mass deportation scheme is probably the most immediately scary part of Trump 2025. It’s not just the just the forcible deportation of millions of people and accompanying family disruption That’s bad enough. Nor is the let’s-see-what-pulling-this-lever-does-hurr economic recklessness./1

Now is a good time to bump this. It makes it extra hard for the National Guard and soldiers to fire at you if you are literally waving the fucking stars and stripes flag.

Trump says he'd like to deport US citizens to El Salvador: "I'd like to go a step further. I don't know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws, but we also have homegrown criminals that push people into subways... I'd like to include them in the group of people to get out of the country"

Hundreds of millions of bees, almost 80% of bees in the US, have died over he past eight months. Researchers don't know why. Here is what this means:
Bees play a critical role in U.S. food production. In addition to making honey, they pollinate 75% of the fruits, nuts and vegetables grown in the U.S.
That's $15 billion worth of crops. Shook said the current losses are unsustainable.
"If this is a multi-year thing, it'll change the way we consume food in the United States," Shook said. "If we lose 80% of our bees every year, the industry cannot survive, which means we cannot pollinate at the scale that we need to produce food in the United States."

This is going to get worse, not better. Never underestimate the American public’s thirst for performative cruelty towards The Other: defendants, foreigners, anyone they’ve been conditioned to see as less than human. We’re the country that made lynchings into picnics.

mRNA vaccines are the biggest breakthrough in disease prevention and treatment in decades. We're curing *cancer* with mRNA vaccines. To eliminate research in this field, at this moment, is fall-of-the-empire-grade stuff.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source. Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Some cold hard truths we have to accept here. I'm not going down a slippery-slope of choosing fascism, but this is clearly a sign the Democratic party, "just don't get it". Course correct and figure out the reality people live in, or they will continue to vote away their rights.

FAA says a military helicopter collided with the American Airlines passenger jet from Wichita near DCA. There must be immediate hearings on how the federal government/Department of Defense allowed this to happen and if removal of safety protocols and recent personnel changes led to this incident.

Why do I get the feeling that in 30 years Chinese AI will be freeing them of labor and making the population more prosperous, and American AI will be selling us McDonald's when we ask it literally anything?

Men will literally complain about the male loneliness epidemic and then not join the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Organizational chart for the Order of Oddfellows, hard to really describe but it's pretty fuckin weird.

A little annoyed today that NYT thinks more people know Sopranos characters than Sesame Street characters, based on connections puzzle difficulty tiers. Somewhat relieved the connections bot proves otherwise. Without Google, I might've failed: Connections Puzzle #541 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟨🟩🟩 🟩🟨🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩
