W̶o̶m̶e̶n̶'̶s̶ cycling couldn't hope for a better champion than Demi Vollering. She articulates the challenges, the triumphs and the sacrifices so well. It not just about the training and the results, it's about being fulfilled off the bike too.

NBC ran a piece where Mary Carrillo went to Norway to find out why they're so good at the Winter Olympics and i was yelling BECAUSE IT'S COLD THERE then she went to a little tiny ski jump for kids and was like "it's free, equipment is provided, & they don't emphasize results" and i was like. oh!

The city seems locked in. Not many people out and about at the North Beach markets nor at the festival by the pier.

My 🚩 is that I make up new life stories for every single uber driver that dares to ask. This week I’ve been a barista and a lawyer so far.

I’ve got a hot take on this - the Archive shouldn’t be holding onto social media posts like other data because people should be able to delete all that by deleting their account from the service instead of having it live on in an archive that only the most deranged people online know how to access.

An autological word (or homological word)[1] expresses a property that it also possesses. For example, the word "word" is a word, the word "English" is (in) English, the word "writable" is writable, and the word "pentasyllabic" has five syllables.

The opposite, a heterological word, does not apply to itself. For example, the word "palindrome" is not a palindrome, "unwritable" is writable, and "monosyllabic" has more than one syllable.

My neighborhood is having a big estate sale, and all I could think was "wow, this is how little a collection of objects is worth at the end of the day." Pristine Wedgewood china, comic book collections, costume jewelry... priced to sell.

My favorite fact about the NYC subway is that there are way more daily riders (about 4 million) than the number of people who fly in the US out of all airports every day (~2.5 million). The scale is hard to get a grasp on.

I really, really don't want to do this, but let's do a bit (just a LITTLE BIT) of fact checking about what Zuck said on the Joe Rogan podcast, because this is something I not only followed closely, but also spent time *talking to the actual people at Meta who dealt with this* which WAS NOT ZUCK.

RACCOON (in trench coat): one kiss WAITER *suspicious*: you're not from around here, are you? RACCOON: t-two kisses? WAITER: ah yes that is a normal quantity of kisses RACCOON *excitedly*: five kisses! WAITER: *eyes narrow*
Typically, Croats and Bosniaks will kiss once on each cheek, for two total kisses, whereas Serbs will kiss once, but three times as a traditional greeting, typically starting at the right cheek. In Serbia and Montenegro, it is also common for men to kiss each other on the cheek three times as a form of greeting, usually for people they have not encountered in a while, or during the celebrations (wedding, birthday, New Year, religious celebrations, etc.).

The thing you have to understand about the banality of evil is that it was mundane. It was people just doing their job. A journalist just publishing an uncritical article about a collaborator. A scientist just doing a calculation without thinking through the implications for weapons.
