For quite a while I have know that the more Republican a state is, the higher their death rate. Here I show what I produced to see where the party effect is by comparing death rates by party with each of the 136 detailed causes of death. See ALT for more. 🧪💡☠️ #Sociology

I created this graph, I haven't even seen anything like it in my half a century of playing with mortality data. Here is what it is and how to read it:

The horizontal scale is the rank of each detailed cause of death by the number of deaths during the time the graph covers, 2021 through 2023. I will explain the first column so you will know what they mean. Reading from the left you start with the cause with the most deaths, cancer causes, Here the first little blue square is up about half way to 150, the mixed party part of the United States had a death rate that was 124% of the same number for Democratic voting states. The red round dot is a little above the 150 mark because that value is 155% Another way of saying this is that the Republican voting states heart disease death is 55% higher than the Democratic states and the mixed party states has a cancer death rate that is 24% higher.

Now since this is the first pair of dots on the graph heart disease causes the most deaths, 507,499, during the last three years we have data for. Now if the Republican and mixed party states had the same death rate from this cause as the Democratic states, I estimate about a fourth of our heart disease death would not have happened.

Now the last cause of death is meningitis which caused 50 deaths during these last three years. Next I will take a look at the overall picture it presents.

In the cases where the dots are below the 100 percent line, the Democratic voting states have a higher death rate. In the Mixed Party states I count 25 blue dots below line, now I am not 100% error free in counting, and 11 red dots below the line. Now out of 252 total dots that is not very many. And looking at the graph you can see most of the lower dots are at the very end, where there are actually relatively few deaths by cause.

In short this tells me that this distribution of higher death rates by cause with more higher in Republican than Mixed, that it is politics. that kills more.
