I’ve fought thrips for quite some time, but what finally worked for me (after trying nematodes, lace wing larva, sticky plates, washing the plants etc) was those bags of predatory mites. I had a pretty bad infestation and all my plants were suffering, but that was the thing that finally helped.

A slime mold, possibly Arcyria cinerea. Waikahekaheiki, Puna, Hawaiʻi.

Several small, pale gray-white, fingerlike clusters rise from decaying wood and leaf litter. Their fuzzy surfaces and branching, coral-like forms contrast with dark brown debris and patches of green lichen.

A Short-eared Owl glides over a snow-covered prairie before sunrise. The owl is in the upper left third of the photo, flying to the right. It's wings are stretched out and upwards. The owl's belly is creamy white with dark brown streaking. Around its head and upper breast, the dark brown is more heavily streaked. The bird's face is white around the beak and light brown elsewhere. The eyes are circled in black, making its bright yellow eyes stand out. The wings are dark brown with white checkering.

The owl is flying above a shortgrass prairie. The ground is covered in snow. Medium height gold and red grasses pierce through the snow in clumps. The grasses are illuminated by a warm golden glow in the pre-sunrise light.

(妻)の編み地衣類新作、カワホリゴケです 𖥧𖤥𖡼𖥣𖥣✺𖧧 樹皮に着生するほぼ真っ黒な葉状地衣で、カワホリというのはコウモリの古い呼び名だそう。黒くて皺だらけの中に小さな赤茶色の子器があるのがちょっとホラーな印象で、コウモリとはうまい例えです😱 そんな感じを再現してみましたが、不規則な皺というのが編み物ではなかなか難しく、浅めの皺にはなりましたが、ボラー感は出せたかと😊 #地衣類 #lichen #fungifriends #あみぐるみ #crochet #amigurumi

Some Dutch beaches have these cool beach wheelchairs with super fat wheels, free to use for whoever needs them.

A wheelchair made out of pvc pipes, with a festively striped seat cushion, and fat slick wheels. It’s locked, and a sign next to it says you can use it for free, and to pick up the key at the beach café. In the background are some dunes, with stairs going down (not pictured: wheelchair ramp, of course).
