❤️ Supergirl ❤️
Drawing of Supergirl up in the air, arms casually raised, looking peaceful and at ease, likely hoping all of those below her are feeling the same, ever ready to help those who aren't.

If you're giving your main character two friends, you're no longer allowed to have a boy one who loves to eat and is a bit of a scaredy cat and a girl one who is accomplished and a little bossy. That's off the table now. Looking at your Fortune's Weave.

I think what I resent the most is that all of us, especially the women who worked with him, were a part of his rehabilitation (at least image-wise) without us ever getting to choose if that was something we wanted to participate in. He didn't let us or his audience make a choice. How ironic.

My hot take is that I would also like questions of violation and resolution and rehabilitation and correct community response to be straightforward enough to cover in 300 characters. But they're not, and to pretend otherwise is both dangerously reductive and a disservice to everyone.

I suppose I agree with those saying that there has to be some form of rehabilitation for those guilty of rape and crimes like it. But I think rehabilitation without atonement is bad. And I believe that a suitable form of atonement, for people who escape going to jail, is ostracism and self-exile.

Since I'll be starting a new role on Monday (more on that soon!), I thought I'd turn my application spreadsheet into a graph and see what three months of job hunting looks like right now, in the data and insights field.
A sankey chart displaying job applicant data. At the start there were 66 Applied Regularly, and 11 Applied by Recruiter.

2 of these roles were put on hold, 49 had no response, 22 were rejected, 1 was turned down, 8 went to 1st interview, 4 went to second interview, 1 role I got accepted, and 2 roles were cancelled because of the already accepted role.

Yesterday's news about Jacob Geller broke my heart, so much that I couldn't stop dwelling on it all day. In an effort to make sense of this horrific news and my admittedly complicated feelings about it, here is my article on the Jacob Geller situation: epiloguegaming.com/what-do-we-d...

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

When an artist who inspires you turns out to be a rapist, your response cannot be to stop making art. Reject them, their work, the parts of them you once emulated, but don’t stop. It wasn’t their crime that inspired you. Make the things they made you want to make. Fuck them; keep the inspiration.

I have been struggling to process my thoughts on all this and couldn't really sum it up better than this. It's deeply sad. I looked up to Jacob as he presented himself, I contributed a foreword to one of the pieces in his book of scripts, I had him as a guest on the fundraising stream I did.

On Jacob Geller
I'm aware of the rape allegations against Jacob Geller, as well as the fact that his name is on a court-ordered list of UNC students disciplined for sexual violence. I've hesitated on whether to post anything about it, because the victim hasn’t been identified and I don’t want to participate in a retraumatizing conversation against their wishes. At the same time, as someone who has collaborated with Jacob Geller, I do not want my silence to be taken as endorsement.

For my part, I did not know about this and I wish I had. What justice and repair look like in cases like these are for the victim to decide, and I do not know their wishes or what accountability processes, if any, took place. However, strictly on a personal level, I’m uncomfortable having collaborated with someone who has presented himself as a nonthreatening feminist without ever disclosing his history of sexual violence to me or any other colleagues I’ve spoken to. I have no intention of ever working with Geller again. Beyond that, the person this happened to ought to be the ultimate authority on what happens next, and how they wish to tell their story if at all.

Paul was never intended as a romantic alternative for MJ. He was clearly a foil for Peter, something temporary. I think a lot of hate came from people not understanding that.

I have thoughts about Amazing Spider-Man #1000, some of which are incomplete because it's going to depend how chips land. But the two main stories are mostly fantastic and one of them made me cry. It just...felt a little like a grab-bag of stories and I'm not sure there was any connective tissue.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
