Exactly, you need the major parties to have at least have a sizeable pro EU contingent, and profess they accept it. I suspect the EU wouldn't be happy with another member that is one election away from taking a purely obstructionist agenda.

It will never not be wild to me that the Russians attacked Keir Starmer's home, successfully spread falsehoods about Starmer's love life, and this didn't changed British politics and British political elite behaviour *at all*.

New Tom Cruise film looks interesting
Film poster for the Tom Cruise film Digger but I've done terrible sub-photoshop job and changed the title to Dogger, and have put the animal mask that hapless Terry was wearing on the infamous Channel 4 documentary "Dogging Tales" on Tom Cruises face and instead of having his foot on a globe like in the original poster it's now on a red 70s car.

If I had been daft enough to do all this and act the fool like this, you could not have dragged it out of me to admit it. I find it insane that people openly post stuff like this that makes them look like such a moron.

I'm nowhere near as optimistic as Ramps is here. The bowling attack struggled a bit when they didn't get those early wickets in the last test. We will see on SA pitches. Plus the batting lineup still seems pretty fragile and not completely settled. www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/s...

Quite. Do we ascribe menace and intelligent intent to the brooms themselves in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". No, it's just inadequate controls set by users who either don't understand or are reckless with the tools they have.

It's the same with fandom and political spheres. There is no unbiased town square or pub where wildly different people go to anymore. It's very easy online to end up in a silo where everyone broadly agrees with you and you do not have information from elsewhere, however bad your ideas are.
010
Notjarvis @notjarvis.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I used to say the unhinged conspiracy guy in the pub used to be tolerated a bit but knew, fundamentally, he was an outlier, as everyone around him thought different Now he knows many 1000s of people with the same mad ideas in the palm of his hand. They can't all be wrong, can they?

And those 5 MPs will be former leaders or chancellors. I suspect a significant proportion couldn't even name their local MP. It just doesn't impinge on people's daily lives now unless they go and look for it.
000
Notjarvis @notjarvis.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
There are so many spheres this sort of thinking is applicable to. e.g. the UK politics nerds on here obsess about how visible or well an MP is performing in some governmental role. Personally, I seriously doubt many people who don't follow politics closely could name more 5 MPs from a party

It's easier to hide age related or health issues in the modern world for a number of reasons, including but not restricted to - information overload, information silos, no trusted authorities, and pure disinformation. Scandals that would have brought down previous leaders often don't cut through

A long, long time ago, my parents used to take us on touring caravan holidays down south for our vacations. One caravan site we visited a couple of times, the owner made a point of telling us about his "award winning toilets," which always caused us much mirth. This reminds me of that

A little bit of this touches on something I've noticed. Many of my teachers in the 80s were touched by the war, and the aftermath. Many of their parents had definitely been closely involved, at least All of them referred to battles and war as deadly serious things. Not sure the same applies now.
